A mass conservative and water storage consistent variable parameter Muskingum-Cunge approach [PDF]

open access: yesHydrology and Earth System Sciences, 2007
The variable parameter Muskingum-Cunge (MC) flood routing approach, together with several variants proposed in the literature, does not fully preserve the mass balance, particularly when dealing with very mild slopes (<10−3<

In situ molecular organization and heterogeneity of the Legionella Dot/Icm T4SS

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present a nearly complete in situ model of the Legionella Dot/Icm type IV secretion system, revealing its central secretion channel and identifying new components. Using cryo‐electron tomography with AI‐based modeling, our work highlights the structure, variability, and mechanism of this complex nanomachine, advancing understanding of bacterial ...

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Reconstructing spatially variable mass balances from past ice extents by inverse modeling

open access: yesJournal of Glaciology, 2018
With the conclusion of the Last Glacial Maximum (LGM), about 20 000 years ago, ended the most recent long-lasting cold phase in Earth history. This last glacial advance left a strong observable imprint on the landscape, such as moraines, trimlines and ...

Axions with Variable Masses

open access: yes, 1992
Axions with variable masses, in the context of a scalar--tensor gravity theory, give a large entropy production during the matter era. The subsequent axion dilution is proportional to their present energy density. Depending on the parameters ($β_I,β_V$) of the model, this dilution relaxes or even eludes the cosmological bound on the axion mass ...

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

Variable thermal conductivity and mass diffusivity effects in a free convective flow of doubly stratified non-darcian porous medium over a vertical plate

open access: yesInternational Journal of Applied Mechanics and Engineering
The research in this article is carried out to study incompressible and unsteady free convective flow on a semi-infinite isothermal vertical plate in a doubly stratified non-Darcian porous media with variable mass diffusivity and variable thermal ...

Transformation properties of the transverse mass under transverse Lorentz boosts at hadron colliders

open access: yes, 2019
The transverse mass of semi-invisibly decaying particles, calculated from the transverse momenta of their decay products, has been used in a broad range of searches and measurements at hadron colliders, such as the LHC.

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

FLEXURAL VIBRATIONS OF THE VERTICAL ROD VARIABLE SECTION WITH A CONCENTRATED MASS

open access: yesВестник Дагестанского государственного технического университета: Технические науки, 2016
Consider bending vibrations of the vertical rod of variable section with a concentrated mass. We study the oscillations excited vector harmonic and random processes with the components of a kinematic and dynamic disturbances. Determine the amplitudes and
