On the Dynamics of Variable Mass Systems [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Mechanical Engineering Education, 2002
This paper accomplishes two things. It presents a derivation of the equations of motion of variable mass systems. The method presented here is based on Kane's formalism, and is complete, efficient, and mathematically rigorous—avoiding heuristics and many other pitfalls of previous attempts at such derivation.

Clinical Insights Into Hypercalcemia of Malignancy in Childhood

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Hypercalcemia of malignancy (HCM) is a rare but life‐threatening metabolic emergency in children that occurs in less than 1% of pediatric cancer cases, with a reported incidence ranging from 0.4% to 1.0% across different studies. While it is observed in 10%–20% of adult malignancies, pediatric HCM remains relatively uncommon.

Vibration suppression device that has variable inertia mass using CVT

open access: yesNihon Kikai Gakkai ronbunshu, 2017
In this paper author proposed a unique vibration suppression device that has variable inertia mass using continuously variable transmission (CVT) in order to obtain vibration isolation when a harmonic frequency was coincided with an anti-resonance ...

Mass reconstruction with $M_2$ under constraint in semi-invisible production at a hadron collider

open access: yes, 2016
The mass-constraining variable $M_2$, a $(1+3)$-dimensional natural successor of extremely popular $M_{T2}$, possesses an array of rich features having the ability to use on-shell mass constraints in semi-invisible production at a hadron collider.

Shape changing and accelerating solitons in integrable variable mass sine-Gordon model [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Sine-Gordon model with variable mass (VMSG) appears in many physical systems, ranging from the current through nonuniform Josephson junction to DNA-promoter dynamics. Such models are usually nonintegrable with solutions found numerically or peturbatively.

Personalized Selumetinib Dosing in Pediatric Neurofibromatosis Type 1: Insights From a Pilot Therapeutic Drug Monitoring Study

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective To evaluate selumetinib exposure using therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM) in pediatric patients with neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1) and plexiform neurofibromas (PN), assess interpatient pharmacokinetic variability, and explore the relationship between drug exposure, clinical response, and adverse effects.

The Nature of the Variable Galactic Center Source IRS16SW

open access: yes, 2004
We report measurements of the light curve of the variable Galactic Center source IRS16SW. The light curve is not consistent with an eclipsing binary or any other obvious variable star.

The role of heavy quarks in light hadron fragmentation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
We investigate the role of heavy quarks in the production of light flavored hadrons and in the determination of the corresponding non perturbative hadronization probabilities.

Secular Evolution of a Two-Planet System of Three Bodies with Variable Masses

open access: yesUniverse
A classical three-body problem with two planets moving around a central star of variable mass on quasi-periodic orbits is considered. The bodies are assumed to attract each other according to Newton’s law of universal gravitation. The star loses its mass

Variable-Mass Particle Filter for Road-Constrained Vehicle Tracking

open access: yesEURASIP Journal on Advances in Signal Processing, 2007
The paper studies the road-constrained vehicle tracking problem employing the multiple-model particle filtering framework. It introduces an approach which enables for a more efficient particle use within the multimodel structure of the tracker; rather ...
