Hematopoietic (stem) cells—The elixir of life?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The aging of HSCs (hematopoietic stem cells) and the blood system leads to the decline of other organs. Rejuvenating aged HSCs improves the function of the blood system, slowing the aging of the heart, kidney, brain, and liver, and the occurrence of age‐related diseases.

The Ratio of Variances in a Variance Components Model

open access: yesThe Annals of Mathematical Statistics, 1955
1. The general incomplete block variance components model. Suppose that yij for i = 1, * ,u, and j = 1, * ,b are independent and normal for given ti I., I tu with means E(yij I t) = nij(ti + bj) and v-ariance a2.

Fixed Effects and Variance Components Estimation in Three-Level Meta-Analysis [PDF]

open access: yes
Meta-analytic methods have been widely applied to education, medicine, and the social sciences. Much of meta-analytic data are hierarchically structured since effect size estimates are nested within studies, and in turn studies can be nested within level-

VARIANCE COMPONENTS AND SELECTION FOR FEATHER PECKING BEHAVIOR IN LAYING HENS [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Variance components and selection response for feather pecking behaviour were studied by analysing the data from a divergent selection experiment.

Spin-dependent electron transport through a ferromagnetic domain wall

open access: yes, 2002
We present a theoretical study of spin-dependent transport through a ferromagnetic domain wall. With an increase of the number of components of the exchange coupling, we have observed that the variance of the conductance becomes half.

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

The Caenorhabditis elegans DPF‐3 and human DPP4 have tripeptidyl peptidase activity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The dipeptidyl peptidase IV (DPPIV) family comprises serine proteases classically defined by their ability to remove dipeptides from the N‐termini of substrates, a feature that gave the family its name. Here, we report the discovery of a previously unrecognized tripeptidyl peptidase activity in DPPIV family members from two different species.

The influence of animals from embryo transfer on the genetic evaluation of growth in Simmental beef cattle by using multi-trait models

open access: yesGenetics and Molecular Biology, 2013
The weight records from Simmental beef cattle were used in a genetic evaluation of growth with or without the inclusion of animals obtained by embryo transfer. A multi-trait model in which embryo transfer individuals were excluded (MTM1) contained 29,510

Analysis of variance components for genetic markers with unphased genotypes

open access: yesFrontiers in Genetics, 2016
An ANOVA type general multi-allele (GMA) model was proposed in cite{Wang2014} on analysis of variance components for quantitative trait loci or genetic markers with phased or unphased genotypes.
