Genetic heterogeneity of residual variance - estimation of variance components using double hierarchical generalized linear models [PDF]
Background The sensitivity to microenvironmental changes varies among animals and may be under genetic control. It is essential to take this element into account when aiming at breeding robust farm animals.

On Quadratic Estimates of Variance Components [PDF]
In this paper quadratic estimates of variance components are considered. For the general balanced nested classification with no specific distributions assumed, it is shown that the quadratic estimate which is unbiased and which has minimum variance is given by the analysis of variance method of estimating the variance components.

Non-Negative Estimators of Variance Components for Balanced Data [PDF]
The purpose of this article has been to summarize various non-negative estimators of variance components - both classical as well as Bayesian, proposed in the literature during recent years, for three widely applicable random effects models.

GENETIC PARAMETERS OF SOME SORGHUM (SORGHUM BICOLOR (L.) MOENCH) GENOTYPES UNDER WATER DEFICIT STRESS [PDF]
Sorghum (Sorghum bicolor(L.) Moench) has a mighty adaptation possibility, which are important parameters of genotypes growing in severe conditions. This study focused on the differential responses of six genotypes under two levels of water deficit (20 ...

Non-homogeneity of variance components from spatially nested sampling of the soil [PDF]
Spatially nested sampling and the associated nested analysis of variance by spatial scale is a well-established methodology for the exploratory investigation of soil variation over multiple, disparate scales. The variance components that can be estimated

A variance-components analysis for the longitude-network adjustment [PDF]
The problem of weights in the task of longitude-network adjustment has not been solved yet because the structure of the observational variances is unknown.

Estimation of genetic variation in residual variance in female and male broiler chickens [PDF]
In breeding programs, robustness of animals and uniformity of end product can be improved by exploiting genetic variation in residual variance. Residual variance can be defined as environmental variance after accounting for all identifiable effects.

The genetic basis of inheritance of plant height in maize [PDF]
The aim of this study, on the grounds of direct and reciprocal diallel crossing of five inbred lines of maize, was to determine: variability, heterosis, combining ability and genetic basis of plant height inheritance. The experiment was based on
