ABSTRACT Background Therapeutic apheresis (TA) is an established treatment modality for hematologic, neurologic, and immunologic disorders, yet access remains severely limited in sub‐Saharan Africa. Donor apheresis, including platelet apheresis collection from healthy donors, represents an important complementary modality supporting blood product ...

Restricted Maximum Likelihood Estimation of Variance Components for Univariate Animal Models Using Sparse Matrix Techniques and Average Information [PDF]
An algorithm is described to estimate variance components for a univariate animal model using REML. Sparse matrix techniques are employed to calculate those elements of the inverse of the coefficient matrix required for the first derivatives of the ...

Sequential Tests for Variance Ratios and Components of Variance
A general sequential sampling method is given for problems of comparing the variances of two or more normal populations in terms of ratios of variances. Sequential tests are given for a hypothesis specifying the ratio of two variances, including tests for variance components in the analysis of variance (Model II).

ABSTRACT Background Establishing a comprehensive apheresis medicine program in a resource‐constrained setting presents significant structural, financial, and logistical challenges. Despite the growing clinical importance of apheresis services globally, published experience from sub‐Saharan Africa remains sparse.

Variance components estimation of residual errors in GPS precise positioning [PDF]
Variance components analysis of residual errors remaining in the GPS double-difference phase observations is presented in this paper. These errors arise due to unmodeled ionospheric, tropospheric and multipath effects and limit the accuracy of n ...

ABSTRACT Background Maintenance hemodialysis (MHD) patients frequently suffer from frailty, characterized by reduced physical function and poor prognosis. Myokines, such as myonectin, secreted by muscle, are emerging regulators of systemic health. This study investigated the relationship between serum myonectin, adipokines (adiponectin, omentin), and ...

A Comparison of Variance Component Estimators [PDF]
Explicit solutions have been derived for the maximum likelihood (ML) and restricted maximum likelihood (REML) equations under normality for four common variance components models with balanced (equal subclass numbers) data. Solutions of the REML equations are identical to analysis of variance (AOV) estimators.
