Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.

Variance components model with disequilibria [PDF]
The variance components (VC) model has been popular for genetic analysis. It has received wide applications in a variety of genetic practices, and been extended to various forms for different settings. However, most of the existing VC models are, explicitly or implicitly, under the assumption of the Hardy-Weinberg and/or linkage equilibria, which is ...

Variance components and nonlinearity [PDF]
summary:Unknown parameters of the covariance matrix (variance components) of the observation vector in regression models are an unpleasant obstacle in a construction of the best estimator of the unknown parameters of the mean value of the observation ...

Restricted Likelihood Ratio Testing in Linear Mixed Models with General Error Covariance Structure [PDF]
We consider the problem of testing for zero variance components in linear mixed models with correlated or heteroscedastic errors. In the case of independent and identically distributed errors, a valid test exists, which is based on the exact finite ...

Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

Sampling and analytical plus subsampling variance components for five soil indicators observed at regional scale [PDF]
When comparing soil baseline measurements with resampled values there are four main sources of error. %RML3 some changes follow These are location (errors in relocating the sample site), sampling errors (representing the site with a sample of material ...

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...
