Degradation mechanism of the von Willebrand factor A2 domain by nattokinase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Nattokinase, a natto‐derived protease, exhibits potent antithrombotic effects. This study demonstrates that nattokinase directly cleaves the von Willebrand factor (vWF) A2 domain in vitro. Unlike the native regulator ADAMTS13, nattokinase degrades folded vWF independently of shear stress.

Unimodality preservation in Markov chains [PDF]

open access: yes, 1978
A subset of the stochastically monotone Markov chains has the property that the expectation of unimodal functions of the chain is itself unimodal in the initial state.

An unexpected alternative viologen electron mediator site in tungsten‐containing formate dehydrogenase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
An unexpected alternative interaction site for ethyl viologen was identified in formate dehydrogenase 1 from Methylorubrum extorquens. Combined mutagenesis, kinetic analysis, and docking revealed that aromatic residues near an iron–sulfur cluster enable flavin mononucleotide‐independent electron transfer, offering a framework for engineering improved ...

An Advection Scheme using Paired Explicit Runge-Kutta Time Integration for Atmospheric Modeling

open access: yesGaoyuan qixiang
In this paper, a new numerical scheme was proposed to solve the advection equation in a multi-moment nonhydrostatic dynamical core.To guarantee the shape-preserving property, the limiting operations are devised for a hybrid discretization framework ...

Design and analysis strategies for robust microbiome ageing research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The gut microbiome changes with age and associates with age‐related morbidity and mortality, establishing it as a potential biomarker and intervention target for ageing. Realising this potential requires methodological rigour, yet distinguishing biological signals from methodological artefacts remains challenging across cohorts. This review provides an

DStreaM: A Convective Term Approximation Approach That Corresponds to Pure Convection

open access: yesMathematics
In recent decades, considerable effort has been devoted to developing higher-order schemes for the discretization of convective terms that are both stable and reliable.

The role of miR‐335‐5p in the redifferentiation of BRAF p.V600E thyroid cancers

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The BRAF p.V600E mutation promotes thyroid cancer dedifferentiation and radioiodine resistance. Using a network approach, we identified miR‐335‐5p as a key regulator of BRAF‐mutated thyroid tumors. Restoring miR‐335‐5p increased thyroid‐specific gene expression and iodine uptake in cells and organoids.

Keratin 19 as a prognostic marker and contributing factor of metastasis and chemoresistance in high‐grade serous ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Keratin 19 (KRT19) is overexpressed in high‐grade serous ovarian cancer with high levels of Kallikrein‐related peptidases (KLK) 4–7 and is associated with poor survival. In vivo analyses demonstrate that elevated KRT19 increases peritoneal tumour burden.

Convenient total variation diminishing conditions for nonlinear difference schemes [PDF]

open access: yes, 1986
Convenient conditions for nonlinear difference schemes to be total-variation diminishing (TVD) are reviewed. It is shown that such schemes share the TVD property, provided their numerical fluxes meet a certain positivity condition at extrema values but ...

A typology of military conflict based on the Hirshleifer contest [PDF]

open access: yes, 2021
In a canonical model of military conflict, victory and defeat depend stochastically on the difference of resources deployed by the conflict parties. The present paper offers a comprehensive analysis of that model.
