Solution of the KdV equation with fractional time derivative via variational method

open access: yesElectronic Journal of Differential Equations, 2014
This article presents a formulation of the time-fractional generalized Korteweg-de Vries (KdV) equation using the Euler-Lagrange variational technique in the Riemann-Liouville derivative sense. It finds an approximate solitary wave solution, and shows

Mixed Variational Formulation of Coupled Plates

open access: yesCoRR
This paper proposes a mixed variational formulation for the problem of two coupled plates with a rigid {junction}. The proposed mixed {formulation} introduces {the union of} stresses and moments as {an auxiliary variable}, which {are} commonly of great interest in practical applications.

Microglial dynamics and ferroptosis induction in human iPSC‐derived neuron–astrocyte–microglia tri‐cultures

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
A tri‐culture of iPSC‐derived neurons, astrocytes, and microglia treated with ferroptosis inducers as an Induced ferroptosis model was characterized by scRNA‐seq, cell survival, and cytokine release assays. This analysis revealed diverse microglial transcriptomic changes, indicating that the system captures key aspects of the complex cellular ...

Variational Physics-Informed Neural Network for 3D Transient Melt Pool Thermal Modeling

open access: yesApplied Sciences
Accurate prediction of transient melt pool thermal fields in Laser Powder Bed Fusion (LPBF) is essential for understanding melt pool geometry and defect formation mechanisms, yet conventional finite element methods (FEM) impose prohibitive computational ...

A light‐triggered Time‐Resolved X‐ray Solution Scattering (TR‐XSS) workflow with application to protein conformational dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Time‐resolved X‐ray solution scattering captures how proteins change shape in real time under near‐native conditions. This article presents a practical workflow for light‐triggered TR‐XSS experiments, from data collection to structural refinement. Using a calcium‐transporting membrane protein as an example, the approach can be broadly applied to study ...

Direct and indirect approximations to positive solution for a nonlinear reaction-diffusion problem. I. Direct (variational)

open access: yesJournal of Numerical Analysis and Approximation Theory, 2002
We consider a nonlinear, second-order, two-point boundary value problem that models some reaction-diffusion precesses. When the reaction term has a particular form, \(f(u)=u^{3}\), the problem has a unique positive solution that satisfies a conserved ...

Applicability of mitotic figure counting by deep learning: a development and pan‐cancer validation study

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
In this study, we developed a deep learning method for mitotic figure counting in H&E‐stained whole‐slide images and evaluated its prognostic impact in 13 external validation cohorts from seven different cancer types. Patients with more mitotic figures per mm2 had significantly worse patient outcome in all the studied cancer types except colorectal ...

Resolvent Iterative Methods for Solving System of Extended General Variational Inclusions

open access: yesJournal of Inequalities and Applications, 2011
We introduce and consider some new systems of extended general variational inclusions involving six different operators. We establish the equivalence between this system of extended general variational inclusions and the fixed points using the resolvent

Chameleon sequences reveal structural effects in proteins representing micelle‐like distribution of hydrophobicity

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Amino acids sequence of two different proteins with the same sequence (chameleon sequence—black boxes) represent in 3D structure of the proteins different secondary structures: HHHH—helical and BBB—Beta‐structural. The chains folded in water environment adopt different III‐order structures in which the chameleon fragments appear to adopt similar status

Exon 7 splicing of ERα predicts poor prognosis and increases phenotypic heterogeneity in luminal a subtype breast cancer

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
ERα splice variant ERα∆7 lacks the C‐terminus, and its expression may change phenotypes of breast cancers. Our results showed that ERα∆7 is found in the luminal A subtype, and elevated ERα∆7 levels are linked to improved cell survival with lower proliferation and migration.
