A variational formulation of shallow shells
A sound variational framework applicable to shallow shell analysis is proposed in this work. The addition of the so-called drilling degrees of freedom, usually absent in the shell analysis, is facilitated within the proposed framework at the continuum level.

ABSTRACT Introduction Bloodstream infections due to repeated vascular access (VA) puncture and circuit connections remain major concerns in hemodialysis. Therefore, we examined current practices for glove, disinfectant, and personal protective equipment (PPE) use according to VA type in national university hospitals in Japan.

Parametric Extended General Mixed Variational Inequalities
It is well known that the resolvent equations are equivalent to the extended general mixed variational inequalities. We use this alternative equivalent formulation to study the sensitivity of the extended general mixed variational inequalities without ...

Stabilized two-phase material point method for hydromechanical coupling problems in solid–fluid porous media [PDF]
For the hydromechanical coupling of solid–fluid porous media, this study presents an explicit stabilized two-phase material point method (MPM) formulation based on the one-point two-phase MPM scheme.

Mapping the evolution of mitochondrial complex I through structural variation
Respiratory complex I (CI) is crucial for bioenergetic metabolism in many prokaryotes and eukaryotes. It is composed of a conserved set of core subunits and additional accessory subunits that vary depending on the organism. Here, we categorize CI subunits from available structures to map the evolution of CI across eukaryotes. Respiratory complex I (CI)

Comment on “A New Second-Order Iteration Method for Solving Nonlinear Equations”
Kang et al. claimed that they obtained a new iteration formulation for nonlinear algebraic equations; however the “new” formulation was first derived in 2007 by the variational iteration method.

Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

Formulation of steady-state void fraction through the principle of minimum entropy production
The complexity of the actual operation of thermal engineering systems comprises multiphase interfacial phenomena evolving out of equilibrium. Therefore, their generalised formulation can contribute towards better understanding and control of these ...

Variational formulation of stationary two-phase flow distribution
This paper discusses the extremisation of the entropy production in fluidic networks to gain insight into using non-equilibrium thermodynamics for mathematically formulating thermal engineering transfer phenomena.
