Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

A link between the maximum entropy approach and the variational entropy form

open access: yes, 2010
The maximum entropy approach operating with quite general entropy measure and constraint is considered. It is demonstrated that for a conditional or parametrized probability distribution $f(x|\mu)$ there is a "universal" relation among the entropy rate ...

A generalized variational formulation

open access: yesJournal of Mathematical Analysis and Applications, 1974
In 1971, B. Vujanovic [I] gave a variational formulation for a broad class of parabolic partial differential equations. Although the formulation was quite unconventional, he and his co-workers [2, 31 have shown that there are numerous applications to be made with excellent results.

Aspects of the Schwinger multichannel variational formulation [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review A, 1988
We present a discussion which should be helpful in clarifying some key steps in the formulation of a multichannel extension of Schwinger’s variational principle for electron-molecule collisions [K. Takatsuka and V. McKoy, Phys. Rev. A 30, 1734 (1984)].

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Magnetic Field Analysis of Electric Current in Coplanar Coils Using Equivalent Permanent Magnetization and Magnetic Scalar Potential

open access: yesIEEE Access
Use of magnetic scalar potential instead of magnetic vector potential can dramatically reduce the computational cost for 3D magnetic field analysis, but for most methods, the use of scalar potential was limited to current-free conditions.

Standard finite elements for the numerical resolution of the elliptic Monge-Ampere equation: classical solutions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
We propose a new variational formulation of the elliptic Monge-Ampere equation and show how classical Lagrange elements can be used for the numerical resolution of classical solutions of the equation.

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

pH‐mediated activation of the lysosomal arginine sensor SLC38A9

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cells monitor nutrient levels via the lysosomal transporter SLC38A9 to activate the mechanistic target of rapamycin complex 1 (mTORC1). This study reveals that SLC38A9 function is regulated by pH. We identified histidine 544 as a critical pH sensor that undergoes conformational changes to control amino acid efflux from lysosomes; therefore, it ...

Time-Dependent Variational Inequality for an Oligopolistic Market Equilibrium Problem with Production and Demand Excesses

open access: yesAbstract and Applied Analysis, 2012
The paper is concerned with the variational formulation of the oligopolistic market equilibrium problem in presence of both production and demand excesses.
