Food Tastes in the United States: Convergence or Divergence?

open access: yesAgribusiness, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study investigates how food consumption tastes have changed in recent decades across the United States. Using NielsenIQ data for over 77 million transactions, there is evidence of divergence in food tastes across regions from 2007 to 2016 and across households of different income, education, and race/ethnicity groups.

Comparing exergy and heat pump work in distillation systems

open access: yesAIChE Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract This study compares the exergy supplied to a distillation column with the actual energy consumption of a heat pump‐assisted distillation (HPAD) system. It evaluates the reliability of exergy as a proxy for heat pump work demand in such systems.

On solvability of general nonlinear variational-like inequalities in reflexive Banach spaces

open access: yesInternational Journal of Mathematics and Mathematical Sciences, 2005
We introduce and study a new class of general nonlinear variational-like inequalities in reflexive Banach spaces. By applying a minimax inequality, we establish two existence and uniqueness theorems of solutions for the general nonlinear variational-like

Existence of solutions of inverted variational inequalities [PDF]

open access: yesCarpathian Journal of Mathematics, Vol. 28, No. 2, pp. 271-278 (2012), 2013
In this paper we introduce two new generalized variational inequalities, and we give some existence results of the solutions for these variational inequalities involving operators belonging to a recently introduced class of operators. We show by examples, that our results fail outside of this class.

Multi-Valued Parabolic Variational Inequalities and Related Variational-Hemivariational Inequalities

open access: yesAdvanced Nonlinear Studies, 2014
Abstract In this paper we study multi-valued parabolic variational inequalities involving quasilinear parabolic operators, and multi-valued integral terms over the underlying parabolic cylinder as well as over parts of the lateral parabolic boundary, where the multi-valued functions involved are assumed to be upper semicontinuous only ...

Optimal control of unilateral obstacle problem with a source term

open access: yes, 2008
We consider an optimal control problem for the obstacle problem with an elliptic variational inequality. The obstacle function which is the control function is assumed in $H^{2}$. We use an approximate technique to introduce a family of problems governed

Uncontrolled Learning: Codesign of Neuromorphic Hardware Topology for Neuromorphic Algorithms

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
Codesign is used to implement a neuroscience‐inspired machine learning algorithm in all neuromorphic hardware. In this implementation, the hidden memristors cannot be directly accessed, limiting control of the network during training. By leveraging theoretical tools, including memristor circuits dynamics and a closed form expression for the network ...

Finite-Value Superiorization for Variational Inequality Problems [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2016
The main goal of this paper is to present the application of a superiorization methodology to solution of variational inequalities. Within this framework a variational inequality operator is considered as a small perturbation of a convex feasibility solver what allows to construct a simple iteration algorithm.
