On the optimal control for variational inequalities [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Optimization Theory and Applications, 1976
We prove an existence theorem for the optimal control of variational inequalities governed by a pseudomonotone operator: the cost is assumed to be quadratic. Then, we give an extension of the theorem to more general costs (assuming the operator to be monotone); we also give a result on a perturbation problem.

Why Didn't I Get a Payout? Understanding Farmer Choices, Index Insurance, and Basis Risk

open access: yesApplied Economic Perspectives and Policy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Index insurance, while heralded as a potential solution to alleviate poverty and food insecurity among agricultural households, has its own set of challenges, notably basis risk. Basis risk is the discrepancy between the insurance payout and losses incurred, posing a significant deterrent to the adoption of index insurance.

A New Algorithm for Variational Inequality Problems in CAT(0) Spaces [PDF]

open access: yes
Numerous strong and weak convergence results on variational inequality problems are known in the literature. We here study a variational inequality problem by using the viscosity approximation method in the nonlinear CAT(0) space, where some novel ...

Solution for the system of generalized nonlinear mixed variational inequality problems

open access: yesDemonstratio Mathematica
We propose in this paper a class of generalized nonlinear mixed variational inequality problems on Banach spaces, which is composed of three elliptic generalized nonlinear mixed variational inequality problems.

How Video‐Based Information Affects Farmers' Willingness to Pay for Drone Services

open access: yesApplied Economic Perspectives and Policy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Professional service for digital technology like agricultural drones lowers transaction costs and scope thresholds for smallholders. Meanwhile, perceptual adoption barriers remain underexplored. We conduct a two‐stage choice experiment with a randomized video‐based information treatment among 384 Chinese crop farmers to measure its effect on ...

RETRACTED ARTICLE: On stability analysis for generalized Minty variational-hemivariational inequality in reflexive Banach spaces

open access: yesJournal of Inequalities and Applications, 2018
The stability for a class of generalized Minty variational-hemivariational inequalities has been considered in reflexive Banach spaces. We demonstrate the equivalent characterizations of the generalized Minty variational-hemivariational inequality.

Strong Stationarity Conditions for Optimal Control Problems Governed by a Rate-Independent Evolution Variational Inequality

open access: yes, 2023
We prove strong stationarity conditions for optimal control problems that are governed by a prototypical rate-independent evolution variational inequality, i.e., first-order necessary optimality conditions in the form of a primal-dual multiplier system ...

Are all meats substitutes? A basket‐and‐expenditure‐based approach

open access: yesAgribusiness, EarlyView.
Abstract This study examines the relationship among animal‐based meat and plant‐based meat alternatives (PBMAs) using a basket‐and‐expenditure‐based choice experiment. In particular, we examine whether animal‐based meat products are substitutes or complements with PBMAs.

Strong Convergence to a Solution of a Variational Inequality Problem in Banach Spaces

open access: yesJournal of Applied Mathematics, 2014
We consider the variational inequality problem for a family of operators of a nonempty closed convex subset of a 2-uniformly convex Banach space with a uniformly Gâteaux differentiable norm, into its dual space.

Expected Variational Inequalities

open access: yesCoRR
Variational inequalities (VIs) encompass many fundamental problems in diverse areas ranging from engineering to economics and machine learning. However, their considerable expressivity comes at the cost of computational intractability. In this paper, we introduce and analyze a natural relaxation -- which we refer to as expected variational inequalities
