Mathematical modeling of collagen turnover in biological tissue [PDF]
The final publication is available at Springer via http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/s00285-012-0613-yWe present a theoretical and computational model for collagen turnover in soft biological tissues. Driven by alterations in the mechanical environment, collagen

Photosynthetic activity of vascular bundles in Plantago media leaves
Photosynthetic processes in the leaf lamina and midribs of Plantago media were investigated using plants grown in high light (HL) or low light (LL) conditions. The fluorescence parameters, which indicate photochemical/photosynthetic activity, were different in HL and LL grown plants, but no major differences between lamina and midribs were found.

Ultrasound localization microscopy to image and assess microvasculature in a rat kidney. [PDF]
The recent development of ultrasound localization microscopy, where individual microbubbles (contrast agents) are detected and tracked within the vasculature, provides new opportunities for imaging the vasculature of entire organs with a spatial ...

Floral vasculature and its variation for carpellary supply in Anthurium (Araceae, Alismatales) [PDF]
Introduction and Aims Anthurium is the largest genus of Araceae, with 950 species distributed in the neotropics. Despite the great diversity of the genus, the knowledge of its floral vasculature is based on observations in only two species, viz.

Stiffness gradients in vascular bundles of the palmWashingtonia robusta [PDF]
Palms can grow at sites exposed to high winds experiencing large dynamic wind and gust loads. Their stems represent a system of stiff fibrous elements embedded in the soft parenchymatous tissue. The proper design of the interface of the stiffening elements and the parenchyma is crucial for the functioning of the stem.

Metabolic profiling of laser microdissected vascular bundles of Arabidopsis thaliana [PDF]
Abstract Background Laser microdissection is a useful tool for collecting tissue-specific samples or even single cells from animal and plant tissue sections. This technique has been successfully employed to study cell type-specific expression at the RNA, and more recently also at the protein ...
