Empagliflozin on top of metformin treatment improves arterial function in patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus

open access: yesCardiovascular Diabetology, 2018
Background Deteriorated arterial function and high incidence of cardiovascular events characterise diabetes mellitus. Metformin and recent antidiabetic drugs, SGLT2 inhibitors, reduce cardiovascular events.

Effectiveness and safety of anticoagulant versus antiplatelet therapy in patients after endovascular revascularisation of the lower limb

open access: yesZdravniški Vestnik, 2022
Background: After revascularisation, patients with peripheral arterial disease (PAD) are routinely prescribed antiplatelet treatment (APT). Patients who receive anticoagulant treatment (ACT) due to comorbidity are an exception.

MicroRNA‐125b in vascular diseases: An updated systematic review of pathogenetic implications and clinical applications

open access: yesJournal of Cellular and Molecular Medicine, 2019
Epigenetic changes, particularly non‐coding RNAs, have been implicated extensively in the pathogenesis of vascular diseases. Specific miRNAs are involved in the differentiation, phenotypic switch, proliferation, apoptosis, cytokine production and matrix ...

YAP1::TFE3 mediates endothelial‐to‐mesenchymal plasticity in epithelioid hemangioendothelioma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The YAP1::TFE3 fusion protein drives endothelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition (EndMT) plasticity, resulting in the loss of endothelial characteristics and gain of mesenchymal‐like properties, including resistance to anoikis, increased migratory capacity, and loss of contact growth inhibition in endothelial cells.

Intravitreal Anti-VEGF Drugs and Signals of Dementia and Parkinson-Like Events: Analysis of the VigiBase Database of Spontaneous Reports [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Introduction: Since vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) regulates several aspects of the central nervous system, particularly in dopaminergic neurons, VEGF inhibitors may be linked to Parkinson-like events and dementia, or variants of these ...

Anticoagulant management in an antithrombin-deficient pregnant woman with a history of venous thromboembolism: a case report

open access: yesThrombosis Journal
Background Antithrombin deficiency (ATD) in pregnant patients significantly increases the risk of venous thromboembolism (VTE), but guidelines for managing anticoagulation during pregnancy, labour, and postpartum in patients with ATD are limited.

Emerging role of ARHGAP29 in melanoma cell phenotype switching

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study gives first insights into the role of ARHGAP29 in malignant melanoma. ARHGAP29 was revealed to be connected to tumor cell plasticity, promoting a mesenchymal‐like, invasive phenotype and driving tumor progression. Further, it modulates cell spreading by influencing RhoA/ROCK signaling and affects SMAD2 activity. Rho GTPase‐activating protein

Arteriogenesis versus angiogenesis: similarities and differences [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Cardiovascular diseases account for more than half of total mortality before the age of 75 in industrialized countries. To develop therapies promoting the compensatory growth of blood vessels could be superior to palliative surgical surgical ...
