Particle-based simulation of ellipse-shaped particle aggregation as a model for vascular network formation [PDF]
Computational modelling is helpful for elucidating the cellular mechanisms driving biological morphogenesis. Previous simulation studies of blood vessel growth based on the Cellular Potts model (CPM) proposed that elongated, adhesive or mutually attractive endothelial cells suffice for the formation of blood vessel sprouts and vascular networks ...

Tumor microenvironment drives cancer formation and progression. We analyzed the role of human cancer‐associated adipocytes from patients with renal cell carcinoma (RCC) stratified as lean, overweight, or obese. RNA‐seq demonstrated that, among the most altered genes involved in the tumor–stroma crosstalk, are ADAM12 and CYP1B1, which were proven to be ...

Metastases are commonly found in the lymphatic system. The molecular mechanism of lymphatic metastasis is, however, poorly understood. Here we report that vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF)-A stimulated lymphangiogenesis in vivo and that ...

CD226+CD8+ T cells express elevated levels of RUNX2, exhibit higher proliferation capacity, cytokines and cytolytic molecules expression, and migratory capacity. In contrast, CD226−CD8+ T cells display an exhausted phenotype associated with the increased expression of co‐inhibitory receptors and impaired effector functions.

Bleomycin increases neutrophil adhesion to human vascular endothelial cells independently of upregulation of ICAM-1 and E-selectin [PDF]
© 2016 Taylor & Francis. Aim of the Study: Bleomycin-induced lung disease is a serious complication of therapy characterized by alveolar injury, cytokine release, inflammatory cell recruitment, and eventually pulmonary fibrosis.

CXC chemokine ligand 1 mediates adiponectin-induced angiogenesis in ovarian cancer
Objectives: Adiponectin is a cytokine secreted from adipose tissue that regulates energy homeostasis, inflammation, and cell proliferation. Obesity is associated with increased risk of various cancers, including ovarian cancer.

Stochastic models of the binding kinetics of VEGF-A to VEGFR1 and VEGFR2 in endothelial cells [PDF]
Vascular endothelial growth factor receptors (VEGFRs) are receptor tyrosine kinases (RTKs) that regulate proliferation, migration, angiogenesis and vascular permeability of endothelial cells. VEGFR1 and VEGFR2 bind vascular endothelial growth factors (VEGFs), inducing receptor dimerisation and activation, characterised by phosphorylation of tyrosine ...

Peripheral blood proteome biomarkers distinguish immunosuppressive features of cancer progression
Immune status significantly influences cancer progression. This study used plasma proteomics to analyze benign 67NR and malignant 4T1 breast tumor models at early and late tumor stages. Immune‐related proteins–osteopontin (Spp1), lactotransferrin (Ltf), calreticulin (Calr) and peroxiredoxin 2 (Prdx2)–were associated with systemic myeloid‐derived ...

Increased pre-therapeutic serum vascular endothelial growth factor in patients with early clinical relapse of osteosarcoma [PDF]
To investigate the clinical significance of circulating angiogenic factors, especially in association with early relapse of osteosarcoma, we quantified pre-therapeutic levels of vascular endothelial growth factor, basic fibroblast growth factor and ...
