Redox status and pulmonary vascular reactivity

Chest, 1985
Oxygen radicals are produced during oxidative metabolism in proportion to the tissue oxygen tension. The studies reported here have shown that oxygen radicals or the sulfhydryl oxidant, diamide, caused pulmonary vasodilatation in the isolated perfused rat lung.

Serotonergic Receptor Subtypes and Vascular Reactivity

Journal of Cardiovascular Pharmacology, 1984
Two distinct binding sites for serotonin have been identified in brain tissue and labeled 5-HT1 and 5-HT2 binding sites. The receptor mediating contractions of several types of vascular smooth muscle (including the canine basilar artery), aggregation of blood platelets, and contractions of tracheal muscle can be defined as a 5-HT2 serotonergic receptor.

The effect of insulin on vascular reactivity to norepinephrine

Diabetes, 1977
The effect of insulin on the vasoconstrictor response to norepinephrine of the resistance bed of the isolated perfused rat tail has been studied. Insulin produced a significant attenuation of this response in concentrations of both 120 mU./ml. and 150 /μU./ml.

Abnormalities of Vascular Reactivity in the Sepsis Syndrome

Chest, 1991
Iultiple organ failure (MOF) denotes a clinical syndrome that is characterized by a process of dysfunction and ultimately failure of vital organs. Commonly found in association with infection in critically ill patients,’ it has supplanted refractory hypoxemia as the major cause of late mortality in patients with the adult respiratory distress syndrome

Vascular Reactivity and Panic Attacks

JAMA: The Journal of the American Medical Association, 1985
To the Editor.— Pies1 recently reported a case in which presumptive Raynaud's phenomenon occurred in a patient with panic disorder and suggested the possibility of a common underlying mechanism. We have obtained data from several sources that argue against this hypothesis.

Endothelin and vascular reactivity in cirrhosis

Hepatology, 1995
Background/Aims: Because the vasodilator nitric oxide is overproduced in cirrhosis, this substance may decrease pressor responses to the vasoconstrictor endothelin 1. This study aimed to examine the effects of a NO synthesis inhibitor (N G-nitro-l-arginine methyl ester; l-NAME) on vascular ...

Estrogen and Vascular Reactivity

1996
Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in American women, claiming more lives than cancer, diabetes, and accidents combined (1,2). The risk of myocardial infarction and stroke increases dramatically in women after the menopause (3). Of women ages 45-64 yr, one of nine have cardiovascular disease; yet after age 65, the ratio increases to ...
