Cold vasoconstriction and vasodilatation

The Irish Journal of Medical Science, 1951
1. When the finger is immersed in water between 0° and 6°C. the initial vasoconstriction is usually, and the subsequent vasoconstrictions are occasionally, sudden in onset and complete in degree. 2. The initial vasodilatation is usually rapid in onset. 3.

Mechanisms of pinacidil-induced vasodilatation

European Journal of Pharmacology, 1990
The mechanism of the vasodilator effect of pinacidil was examined. Pinacidil (0.1-100 microM) inhibited the increases in cytosolic Ca2+ ([Ca2+]i) and muscle tension due to norepinephrine in rat aorta. In contrast, a Ca2+ channel blocker, verapamil, inhibited the norepinephrine-stimulated [Ca2+]i more strongly than the contraction. Higher concentrations

Antidromic vasodilatation and neurogenic inflammation

Pharmacology & Therapeutics, 1988
Antidromic stimulation of the lumbosacral dorsal roots of the rat 1.) evokes a long-lasting increase in cutaneous microcirculation of the paw as detected by the laser Doppler flowmeter, and 2.) induces plasma extravasation in the innervated skin areas and various pelvic organs.

Mechanisms of hypoxic cerebral vasodilatation

Pharmacology & Therapeutics, 1995
Hypoxia activates multiple mechanisms that influence cerebrovascular tone. Through actions on non-vascular cerebral elements, hypoxia stimulates the production of a wide variety of vasodilator metabolites, the most important of which are potassium and hydrogen ions, prostaglandins and adenosine.
