Improvement of the MEMS bionic vector hydrophone

Microelectronics Journal, 2011
A kind of MEMS vector hydrophone with bionics structure was introduced in 2007. As the acoustic-electric transducer structure and the acoustic package of hydrophone have been optimized, the performance of the hydrophone has been greatly improved compared with the previous.

Design and implementation of beaded cilia MEMS vector hydrophone

Measurement, 2021
Abstract In view of the problem that the increased difficulty of underwater moving targets detection caused by the development of acoustic stealth technology, a beaded cilia MEMS vector hydrophone (BCVH) is proposed in this paper. Compared with previous cilia structures, it can enlarge the receiving area of acoustic wave to improve sensitivity ...

MEMS Bionic Vector Hydrophone

Key Engineering Materials, 2012
A novel MEMS vector hydrophone with bionics structure was introduced in 2007. As the acoustic-electric transducer infrastructure has been optimized, the performance of the hydrophone has been greatly improved compared with the previous. This hydrophone calibration was finished in National Defense Underwater Acoustics Calibration Laboratory of China ...

Using hydrophones as vector sensors

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2014
Hydrophone arrays with spacing much less than an acoustic wavelength can be converted to vector sensors. Subsequent vector sensor signal processing can then be applied. Two particular applications are presented: The first is converting very low frequency acoustic data to seismic type data that contain polarization information and the second is getting ...

Design of MEMS Piezoelectric Vector Hydrophone

Key Engineering Materials, 2013
This paper presents a novel micro-electromechanical system (MEMS) piezoelectric vector hydrophone based on ZnO thin film. The approximate theory analysis is introduced in sensitivity and resonant frequency, and a simulation on the vector hydrophone is carried out by finite element method (FEM).

Vector Hydrophone Passive Time Reversal for Underwater Acoustic Communications

OCEANS 2022 - Chennai, 2022
The use of vector hydrophones as a receiver for underwater communications has been the subject of research since such device is a compact option to pressure-only arrays. A vector hydrophone, usually called acoustic vector sensor, is a device that measures pressure and particle velocity components.

Ultra thin fiber laser vector hydrophone

SPIE Proceedings, 2011
This paper presents a two-axis fiber laser vector hydrophone which uses a V-shaped flexed beam to enhance the sensitivity and reduce the dimensions. Theoretical analyses of the sensitivity and frequent response are given. The key parameters that determine the sensitivity and resonant frequency are discussed.

Study on Vector Hydrophone Array DOA Estimation

Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2014
Vector hydrophone is composed of acoustic pressure sensor and particle velocity sensor, which can simultaneously measure acoustic pressure and orthogonal components of particle velocity. MUSIC (Multiple Signal Classification) algorithm is a high resolution spatial spectrum analysis method based on subspace decomposition.

Fiber laser vector hydrophone: theory and experiment

SPIE Proceedings, 2011
A novel fiber laser vector hydrophone (FLVH) based on accelerometers is presented. Three fiber laser accelerometers (FLA), perpendicular to each other, are used to detect the acoustic induced particle acceleration. Theoretical analyses of the acoustic sensitivity and the natural frequency are given.

A primer on vector hydrophones

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2018
Vector hydrophones are used by the military to track submarines, and, more recently, by scientists attempting to measure the influence of particle velocity on the behaviour of fish. Despite being in use for decades, vector hydrophones remain poorly understood by both communities.
