Description of the helminth community structure from two populations of Plains Viscacha (Rodentia: Chinchillidae) in semi-captive and wild conditions

open access: yesRevista Mexicana de Biodiversidad
Lagostomus maximus is a native rodent of South America that presents economic and biological importance. However, few studies on parasites of this rodent are available throughout its geographic distribution.

Xylella fastidiosa: A MOLECULAR ANALYSIS OF BACTERIAL DISEASE STATUS AT INTERNATIONAL LEVEL

open access: yesTropical and Subtropical Agroecosystems, 2021
Background: Xylella fastidiosa is a bacterium considered native to the American continent, which affects the vascular ducts of the xylem, causing diseases with an economically important cost in plantations.

Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.

Mosquito Control and Scrap Tires: Same Old Problem, No Reliable Strategies

open access: yesActa Biológica Colombiana
Artificial breeding sites in urban areas have favored the domestication of mosquito vectors. Scrap tires are an important breeding source for mosquito larvae.

Etiología parasitaria y obstáculos epistemológicos: el caso de la malaria en Colombia Parasite ethiology and epistemological obstacles: the case of malaria in Colombia

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.
