Geographic distribution of Orientia tsutsugamushi strains on chigger mites in the Republic of Korea (2021–2023)

open access: yesParasites & Vectors
Background Scrub typhus is caused by the larvae of chigger mites infected with Orientia tsutsugamushi, and many cases are reported globally. The virulence and prevalence of O. tsutsugamushi varies depending on the strain and region.

RIPK4 function interferes with melanoma cell adhesion and metastasis

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
RIPK4 promotes melanoma growth and spread. RIPK4 levels increase as skin lesions progress to melanoma. CRISPR/Cas9‐mediated deletion of RIPK4 causes melanoma cells to form less compact spheroids, reduces their migratory and invasive abilities and limits tumour growth and dissemination in mouse models.

Relationship between oral declaration on adherence to ivermectin treatment and parasitological indicators of onchocerciasis in an area of persistent transmission despite a decade of mass drug administration in Cameroon

open access: yesParasites & Vectors, 2015
Background Onchocerciasis control for years has been based on mass drug administration (MDA) with ivermectin (IVM). Adherence to IVM repeated treatment has recently been shown to be a confounding factor for onchocerciasis elimination precisely in rain ...

COMP–PMEPA1 axis promotes epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition in breast cancer cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study reveals that cartilage oligomeric matrix protein (COMP) promotes epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition (EMT) in breast cancer. We identify PMEPA1 (protein TMEPAI) as a novel COMP‐binding partner that mediates EMT via binding to the TSP domains of COMP, establishing the COMP–PMEPA1 axis as a key EMT driver in breast cancer.

Evaluation of vector competence of Culex tritaeniorhynchus and Culex pipiens pallens for Japanese encephalitis virus genotype III and V

open access: yesParasites & Vectors
Background Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV) is a major mosquito-borne pathogen, primarily transmitted by Culex tritaeniorhynchus in rural regions. In the Republic of Korea (ROK), genotype V (GV) has become the dominant JEV strain since 2010, raising ...

EDNRB‐dependent endothelin signaling reduces proliferation and promotes proneural‐to‐mesenchymal transition in gliomas

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Glioma cells mainly express the endothelin receptor EDNRB, while EDNRA is restricted to a perivascular tumor subpopulation. Endothelin signaling reduces glioma cell proliferation while promoting migration and a proneural‐to‐mesenchymal transition associated with poor prognosis. This pathway activates Ca2+, K+, ERK, and STAT3 signalings and is regulated

In the battle of survival: transcriptome analysis of hypopharyngeal gland of the Apis mellifera under temperature-stress

open access: yesBMC Genomics
Background Temperature is one of the essential abiotic factors required for honey bee survival and pollination. Apart from its role as a major contributor to colony collapse disorder (CCD), it also affects honey bee physiology and behavior.

On the sum of the Voronoi polytope of a lattice with a zonotope [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
A parallelotope $P$ is a polytope that admits a facet-to-facet tiling of space by translation copies of $P$ along a lattice. The Voronoi cell $P_V(L)$ of a lattice $L$ is an example of a parallelotope.

Engineered extracellular vesicles enriched with the miR‐214/199a cluster enhance the efficacy of chemotherapy in ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Loss of the miR‐214/199a cluster is associated with recurrence in ovarian cancer. Engineered small extracellular vesicles (m214‐sEVs) elevate miR‐214‐3p/miR‐199a‐5p in tumor cells, suppress β‐catenin, TLR4, and YKT6 signaling, reprogram tumor‐derived sEV cargo, reduce chemoresistance and migration, and enhance carboplatin efficacy and survival in ...

The dynamics of questing ticks collected for 164 consecutive months off the vegetation of two landscape zones in the Kruger National Park (1988–2002). Part III. The less commonly collected species

open access: yesOnderstepoort Journal of Veterinary Research, 2011
Despite many studies regarding tick ecology, limited information on long-term changes in tick populations exist. This study assessed the long-term population dynamics of the less frequently collected questing ixodid ticks in the Kruger National Park ...
