Self‐Optimized Computational Resource Allocation for Enhanced Perception in Intersection Blind Spots

open access: yesJournal of Advanced Transportation, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
Blind spots represent a critical challenge to maintaining traffic safety. The development and deployment of intelligent and connected vehicle technologies have resulted in significant enhancements to traffic safety. However, blind spots are still a thorny issue, especially on traffic safety at intersections because of the complexity of their reasoning ...

Macroscopic flow control of connected and automated vehicles at signalized intersections

open access: yesComputer-Aided Civil and Infrastructure Engineering, Volume 40, Issue 30, Page 6024-6047, 19 December 2025.
Abstract To fully leverage connected automated vehicle (CAV) technology for improving traffic flow at signalized intersections, this paper addresses the scalability limitations of traditional microscopic control methods. We propose a macroscopic connected automated flow control (CAFC) framework based on the cell transmission model (CTM), which ...

Explainable reinforcement learning for improved traffic signal control

open access: yesComputer-Aided Civil and Infrastructure Engineering, Volume 40, Issue 24, Page 3911-3933, 6 October 2025.
Abstract Reinforcement learning has become a popular approach for traffic signal control, but its complexity often hinders practical application. To improve this, we propose a deep Q‐network framework with an attention mechanism inspired by how traffic police manage intersections.
