Analysis of Liquefaction Potential Based on Seismic Wave Velocity in Bengkulu City

open access: yesJurnal Fisika Flux, 2023
Bengkulu City has a high liquefaction rate, both geologically and geophysically. This is because Bengkulu City consists of rocks in the form of sand, silt, mud, clay, coral fragments and gravel in alluvial areas (Qa) and floodplains.

Symmetry broken motion of a periodically driven Brownian particle: nonadiabatic regime

open access: yes, 2000
We report a theoretical study of an overdamped Brownian particle dynamics in the presence of both a spatially modulated one-dimensional periodic potential and a periodic alternating force (AF).

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Unconventional behavior of Dirac fermions in three-dimensional gauge theory

open access: yes, 2012
We study the unconventional behavior of massless Dirac fermions due to interaction with a U(1) gauge field in two spatial dimensions. At zero chemical potential, the longitudinal and transverse components of gauge interaction are both long-ranged.

The Velocity Potential for Schlogl's Model

open access: yes, 1998
Department of Applied Chemistry, Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra, Ranchi-835 215 Manuscript received 7 February 1997, revised 27 June 1997, accepted 30 September 1997 It is shown that velocity potential for a simple nonlinear reaction scheme involving a simple chemical intermediate (Schlogl's model) exists.

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Berry's phase and the anomalous velocity of Bloch wavepackets

open access: yes, 2010
The semiclassical equations of motion for a Bloch electron include an anomalous velocity term analogous to a $k$-space "Lorentz force", with the Berry connection playing the role of a vector potential. By examining the adiabatic evolution of Bloch states

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

Velocity-in/dependent double folding analysis of 12C + 12C elastic scattering cross section at different energies

open access: yesJournal of Nigerian Society of Physical Sciences
This study investigates the elastic scattering cross sections for 12 C + 12 C over a wide range of incident energies from 78.85 to 420 MeV using the velocity–dependent São Paulo Potential version 2 (SPP2) and the velocity–independent Brazilian Nuclear ...
