Prehospital whole blood transfusion versus component therapy—A scoping review
Abstract Background Whole blood has gained a foothold over component therapy in civilian emergency care, especially in emergency departments. In a prehospital setting, whole blood might be the logistically easier alternative compared to component therapy. However, most previous studies have been conducted in the emergency room setting.

ABSTRACT Objective To assess the association between mechanical power (MP) and survival in mechanically ventilated dogs with primary pulmonary parenchymal disease and to compare its prognostic performance against individual ventilator parameters and oxygenation indices. Design Retrospective, multicenter observational cohort study.

The effect of one‐lung ventilation on sentinel lymph node mapping in dog lungs
Abstract Objective To determine the sentinel lymph node (SLN) for the caudal lung lobe using indocyanine green (ICG) and near infra‐red fluorescence (NIRF) in normal dogs. The secondary objective was to determine the effect of one lung ventilation (OLV) on time to SLN detection. Study design Prospective, randomized experimental study.

Abstract Cerebral blood flow (CBF) is essential for sustaining neuronal metabolism and cognitive performance; however, the precise relationship between perfusion and cognition remains unclear. Although ageing and disease are associated with progressive declines in CBF and cognitive impairment, the acute effects of altered CBF under environmental ...

Abstract Exercise in hot climates increases the risk of gastrointestinal (GI) disruption and respiratory illness. We investigated the effects of a 42 day prebiotic intervention on markers of intestinal epithelial injury, GI discomfort and immunity following football specific exercise in the heat and daily upper respiratory illness.

Abstract Central blood volume (CBV) reduction challenges circulatory and respiratory homeostasis, particularly during the initial compensatory phase (0–2 min), when rapid physiological adaptations occur. In this study, we examined dynamic cardiorespiratory responses to CBV reduction using lower‐body negative pressure (LBNP) in 11 healthy young males ...

Abstract figure legend During cardiopulmonary exercise testing, the decline in oxygenation in the prefrontal cortex of women is striking. This crucial brain area is directly involved in planning motor tasks. The decline is particularly pronounced at higher exercise intensities, especially after reaching the respiratory compensation point or anaerobic ...

Brain strain: Blood flow and metabolism in environmental extremes
Abstract This narrative review compares and contrasts the most commonly encountered environmental stressors on human cerebrovascular functioning. From high altitude and space, extreme apnoea, heat and cold stress, the impact of these stressors on the regulation of cerebral blood flow (CBF) and oxygen metabolism (CMRO2${\mathrm{CM}}{{\mathrm{R}}_ ...

Abstract Circulatory shock remains difficult to manage because fluid resuscitation and catecholamines may exacerbate vascular dysfunction and tissue hypoperfusion. This prospective physiological analysis, embedded within a multicentre phase IV study, examined whether selectively targeting the venous circulation with centhaquine improves circulatory ...
