Testing of mechanical ventilators and infant incubators in healthcare institutions

open access: yes, 2017
The medical device industry has grown rapidly and incessantly over the past century. The sophistication and complexity of the designed instrumentation is nowadays rising and, with it, has also increased the need to develop some better, more effective and

Pharmacological inhibition of the PERK pathway modulates hepatocellular carcinoma growth and immune signaling

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Pharmacological inhibition of PERK in a DEN‐induced mouse model of liver cancer does not reduce tumor burden but alters cellular stress signaling. Despite blocking PERK activity, downstream stress responses, including CHOP expression, remain active, suggesting compensatory mechanisms within the unfolded protein response that may influence tumor ...

An Outcome Analysis of Mechanically Ventilated Middle Aged and Elderly Taiwanese Patients Undergoing Tracheostomy

open access: yesInternational Journal of Gerontology, 2013
Background: The primary goal in critically ill patients who are mechanically ventilated is to wean from the ventilator. Higher weaning rates have been noted in patients undergoing mechanical ventilation following tracheostomy.

Patient-Ventilator Dyssynchrony [PDF]

open access: yesKorean Journal of Critical Care Medicine, 2017
In mechanically ventilated patients, assisted mechanical ventilation (MV) is employed early, following the acute phase of critical illness, in order to eliminate the detrimental effects of controlled MV, most notably the development of ventilator-induced

Ventilators types and importance for COVID-19 patients: An updated review article for pharmacists

open access: yes, 2022
Background: The COVID-19 pandemic has underscored the vital role of ventilators in managing severe respiratory failure in patients, particularly those with acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). As the virus primarily targets the respiratory system,

Cyclic azapeptide CD36 ligand attenuates cardiac injury and reduces long‐chain fatty acid accumulation after myocardial ischemia–reperfusion in mice

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
In a murine model of myocardial ischemia and reperfusion (MI/R), the CD36 azapeptide ligand MPE‐298 reduces cardiac injury and transiently lowers left ventricular long‐chain fatty acids (LCFAs) accumulation 3 h after reperfusion, accompanied by a decrease of oxidative stress and inflammation‐associated genes' expression in the heart and adipose tissue.

Conventional Mechanical Ventilation

open access: yesSaudi Journal of Anaesthesia, 2010
The provision of mechanical ventilation for the support of infants and children with respiratory failure or insufficiency is one of the most common techniques that are performed in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU). Despite its widespread application in the PICUs of the 21st century, before the 1930s, respiratory failure was uniformly fatal due ...

Evaluation protocol of medical equipment to adapt them as temporary mechanical ventilators

open access: yes, 2020
El presente trabajo propone el uso de ventiladores de emergencia y máquinas de anestesia como instrumentos de reemplazo temporal de ventiladores mecánicos y sus correspondientes funciones destinadas para terapia respiratoria.

Actual performance of mechanical ventilators in ICU: a multicentric quality control study. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Even if the performance of a given ventilator has been evaluated in the laboratory under very well controlled conditions, inappropriate maintenance and lack of long-term stability and accuracy of the ventilator sensors may lead to ventilation errors in ...

Investigating the effect of materials and structures for negative pressure ventilators suitable for pandemic situation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2021
The onset of the corona virus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic caused shortages in mechanical ventilators (MVs) essential for the intensive care unit (ICU) in the hospitals.
