Ventilator-associated pneumonia or ventilator-induced pneumonia [PDF]
Ventilator-associated pneumonia currently in vogue seems to have some pitfalls as far as the nomenclature is concerned and thus it imparts an erroneous impression to the reader. As the driving force is in fact the ventilator, the phraseology should preferably be changed to ventilator-induced pneumonia to convey the in depth meaning of the term thus ...

Reusable Areas of Clinically Used Ventilators Carry Low Numbers of Aerobic Bacteria
Ventilator associated pneumonia (VAP) remains a serious problem for critically ill patients. We swabbed nine reusable areas on 20 clinically-used ventilators from a VA Hospital shortly after they had been removed from patients and identified bacterial ...

Pharmacologic ascorbate (vitamin C) increases ROS, disrupts cellular metabolism, and induces DNA damage in CRPC cells. These effects sensitize tumors to PARP inhibition, producing synergistic growth suppression with olaparib in vitro and significantly delayed tumor progression in vivo. Pyruvate rescue confirms ROS‐dependent activity.

A comparison of controlled ventilation with a noninvasive ventilator versus traditional mask ventilation [PDF]
After induction, but before intubation, many general anesthesia patients are manually bag-mask ventilated. The objective of this study was to determine the efficacy of bag-mask ventilation (MkV) of an anesthetized patient versus mask ventilation using a noninvasive ventilator (NIV).

Aptamers are used both therapeutically and as targeting agents in cancer treatment. We developed an aptamer‐targeted PLGA–TRAIL nanosystem that exhibited superior therapeutic efficacy in NOD/SCID breast cancer models. This nanosystem represents a novel biotechnological drug candidate for suppressing resistance development in breast cancer.
