Verb frame preferences: Descriptive norms
Journal of Psycholinguistic Research, 1984This paper presents normative data about the frequency with which college students construct sentences with different syntactically defined frames for 127 English verbs. The norms are intended to be of use to experimenters in preparing materials to study sentence comprehension.

Exploring the role of verb frames in assessing semantic difficulty
Linguistic Proceedings Series, 2021This paper explores the role of verb frames in semantic difficulty. We built a textbook corpus based on textbooks in primary schools, and the grades of the textbooks were treated as semantic difficulty levels. The difficulty levels were furthered mapped onto the performance of verb frames.

Extracting Idiomatic Hungarian Verb Frames
2006We describe a machine learning method for collecting idiomatic fixed stem verb frames. Firstly we collect frequent frame candidates from the output of a partial parser, secondly we apply a certain idiomaticity metric to the list to get the most idiomatic frames.

An ontology for tactical behaviors derived from verb frames
SPIE Proceedings, 2008We present an initial ontology for tactical behaviors conducted by unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs). We focus on activities, which are the denotations of verbs, notably 'move' but also 'look (for)' and several others. These take collective subjects, allowing activities to be attributed to units at various hierarchical levels.

2000This chapter reports on a study designed to investigate young children’s knowledge of three syntactic frames. The syntactic bootstrapping hypothesis, proposed by Landau & Gleitman (1985) and Gleitman (1990) suggests that children are able to use the syntactic frame in which a verb appears to determine something about the verb’s meaning.
