The Antioxidant, Anticarcinogenic and Antimicrobial Properties of Verbascum thapsus L.
Medicinal Chemistry, 2020Background: The antioxidant, anticarcinogenic, and antimicrobial activities of Verbascum Thapsus L., known as great mullein, (an important medicinal plant containing different biochemical compounds including sesquiterpenes, flavonoids, saponins and lignins) were determined. There is not much data, to our knowledge, in this respect.

Production of verbascoside and its analogues in in vitro cultures of Verbascum thapsus L.
Plant Cell, Tissue and Organ Culture (PCTOC), 2019In this work an effective method to start axenic cultures of Verbascum thapsus L. was developed. This allowed to obtain a high percentage of callus generation from leaf explants (around 70%) and to start the cultivation of suspension cultured cells rapidly growing in liquid culture medium.

Hybrid affinity chromatography of α-galactosidase from Verbascum thapsus L.
Journal of Chromatography A, 1998Purification of alpha-galactosidase from the roots of Verbascum thapsus L. was difficult to achieve using conventional methods due to the presence of coloured contaminants. A newly developed procedure, hybrid affinity chromatography, which was based on a mixed matrix separation procedure, using a substrate analogue and an immobilized metal affinity ...

Temperature relations of photosynthetic response in populations of Verbascum thapsus L.
Oecologia, 1976Seedlings representative of Verbascum thapsus L. populations from thermally diverse habitats were grown under uniform, controlled conditions. The plants were used to obtain temperature response curves for net photosynthesis over a range of 15-40°C. In general, all experimental plants exhibited similar rates of net photosynthesis at 20, 25, 30, and 35°C.

Internal transcribed spacers (ITS) have been widely used for molecular identification of plant species. Present work provides a rapid and accurate approach for the detection and identification of Verbascum thapsus based on ITS sequences. Amplified sequence of 689 bp fragment by ITS1 and ITS4 primers from nrDNA revealed five regions viz.

Chemical Composition and Antimicrobial Activity of the Essential Oil ofVerbascum thapsusL.
Journal of Essential Oil Bearing Plants, 2012The composition of the essential oil obtained from the dried flowering aerial parts of Verbascum thapsus L. was analyzed by GC and GC-MS. Ninety-two components were identified in the essential oil of V. thapsus. The major components of the essential oil were 6,10,14-trimethyl-2-pentadecanone (14.3 %) and (E)-phytol (9.3 %).
