Does introduced European Phragmites australis experience belowground microbial enemy release in North America?

open access: yesEcosphere, Volume 15, Issue 8, August 2024.
Abstract Escape from native range enemies can give invasive species a competitive edge according to the enemy‐release hypothesis. While more commonly associated with predators and herbivores, release from belowground microbial antagonists has been recently demonstrated to benefit invasive plants.

Promoting plant diversity and habitat heterogeneity through vineyard terracing

open access: yesApplied Vegetation Science, Volume 27, Issue 2, April/June 2024.
We evaluated how distinct vineyard management shapes plant communities and diversity along a mechanical disturbance gradient. A long environmental gradient from terrace inter‐rows to embankments created habitat heterogeneity in a narrow space and favored high plant diversity.

Verbascum species as a new source of saffron apocarotenoids and molecular tools for the biotechnological production of crocins and picrocrocin

open access: yesThe Plant Journal, Volume 118, Issue 1, Page 58-72, April 2024.
Significance Statement Verbascum giganteum and V. sinuatum, traditionally use for their medical properties, produce hundreds of yellow flowers. In the present study, we shown that these flowers accumulate crocins and picrocrocin at high levels. The carotenoid cleavage enzymes involved in the production of these apocarotenoids belong to the CCD4 ...

Study of the overwintering ecology of the hazelnut pest, Palomena prasina (L.) (Hemiptera: Pentatomidae) in a perspective of Integrated Pest Management

open access: yesJournal of Applied Entomology, Volume 148, Issue 1, Page 34-48, February 2024.
Abstract Palomena prasina, the green shield bug (GSB), is widely distributed in the Eurosiberian region. In the Southwest of France, it is considered as a serious pest of hazelnuts, its feeding punctures lead to blank hazelnuts and kernel necrosis, causing heavy losses in commercial orchards. To date, no Integrated Pest Management strategy is available

Antimicrobial Activity of Aqueous-Alcoholic Extracts and the Essential Oil of Verbascum thapsus L.

open access: yesJundishapur Journal of Natural Pharmaceutical Products, 2015
Background: The increasing resistance of human pathogens to the available antimicrobials is a serious threat, resulting in the need for novel antibiotic resources such as plants. Some species of the genus Verbascum have been used by mankind since ancient times as an effective remedy for infectious diseases.
