Index of Refraction and Verdet Constant of Atomic Helium

Journal of the Optical Society of America, 1970
The index of refraction and Verdet constant of atomic helium are calculated with the Pade approximant method from the first two oscillator strengths and the numerical values of α+(ν) which are connected with the dynamic polarizability α(ν) through the relation α(ν) = α+(ν) + α+(−ν).

Effective Verdet constant in a terbium-doped-core phosphate fiber

Optics Letters, 2009
The concept of an effective Verdet constant is proposed and experimentally validated. The effective Verdet constant of light propagation in a fiber includes contributions from the materials in both the core and the cladding. It is measured in a 25 wt.% terbium-doped-core phosphate fiber to be -6.2+/-0.4 rad/(Tm) at 1,053 nm, which is six times larger ...

Verdet constant dispersion of MgF2 in deep-ultraviolet region

Optica Advanced Photonics Congress 2022, 2022
The Verdet constant dispersion of MgF2 was evaluated in the wavelength range from 190 nm to 300nm. The Verdet constants were found to be 37.8 rad/Tm at 193nm and 19.5rad/Tm at 248 nm, respectively.

On the origin independence of the Verdet tensor† [PDF]

open access: yesMolecular Physics, 2013
The condition for invariance under a translation of the coordinate system of the Verdet tensor and the Verdet constant, calculated via quantum chemical methods using gaugeless basis sets, is expressed by a vanishing sum rule involving a third-rank polar ...

A new Faraday rotation glass with a large Verdet constant

Journal of Applied Physics, 1994
Heavily terbium-doped boron-silicate glasses (Tb3+10.4 at. %) with a Verdet constant (632.8 nm, room temperature) as large as −0.338 min/Oe cm, 38% larger than that of the famous FR-5 glasses, have been made. The wavelength and temperature dependencies of the Verdet constants of samples have been investigated in the ranges of 400 to 800 nm and 100 to ...

Calculation of the magnetic susceptibility and the Verdet constant in neodymium trifluoride

Journal of Applied Physics, 1995
This paper first considers the effects of multielectron interaction, L−S interaction and the weak crystal-field on the 4f3 ground state of Nd3+ ion in the paramagnetic medium NdF3; then, further takes account of the splitting of the crystal-field ground levels caused by both the effective superexchange field Hv and the applied field He, and calculates ...

Verdet constant of liquids; measurements with a pulsed magnetic field

The Journal of Chemical Physics, 1979
The dispersion of the Verdet constant of several inorganic and organic liquids was measured at room temperature with a pulsed magnetic field in the spectral range from 0.3471 μm up to 0.6943 μm. We also measured the Verdet constant, at the wavelength of 0.4579 μm and at room temperature, of the three binary systems methanol–water, ethanol–water, and ...

The measurement system of birefringence and Verdet constant of optical fiber

SPIE Proceedings, 2013
The Faraday magneto-optical effect of optical fiber has many applications in monitoring magnetic field and electric current. When a linearly polarized light propagates in the direction of a magnetic field, the plane of polarization will rotate linearly proportional to the strength of the applied magnetic field, which following the relationship of θ F =

Measurement of the Verdet Constant in a Terbium-Core-Doped Fiber

Frontiers in Optics 2008/Laser Science XXIV/Plasmonics and Metamaterials/Optical Fabrication and Testing, 2008
The effective Verdet constant is measured in a 25-wt%.-terbium-doped phosphate fiber. It is six times larger than a silica fiber, with contributions from the materials in the core and the cladding.

Calculation of the Verdet constants for H2, N2, CO, and FH

The Journal of Chemical Physics, 1993
The Verdet constant (V), which governs magnetic optical rotation, has been evaluated, at several frequencies, as a quadratic response function for H2, N2, CO, and FH, in the random-phase approximation (RPA). At the same time, the ‘‘normal’’ Verdet constant (VN) has been found from the linear response function in both RPA and second-order polarization ...
