Glyco-variant library of the versatile enzyme horseradish peroxidase [PDF]

open access: yesGlycobiology, 2014
When the glycosylated plant enzyme horseradish peroxidase (HRP) is conjugated to specific antibodies, it presents a powerful tool for medical applications. The isolation and purification of this enzyme from plant is difficult and only gives low yields.

Stable and Functionally Diverse Versatile Peroxidases Designed Directly from Sequences [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of the American Chemical Society, 2022
White-rot fungi secrete a repertoire of high-redox potential oxidoreductases to efficiently decompose lignin. Of these enzymes, versatile peroxidases (VPs) are the most promiscuous biocatalysts. VPs are attractive enzymes for research and industrial use but their recombinant production is extremely challenging.

Peroxidase profiling reveals genetic linkage between peroxidase gene clusters and basal host and non-host resistance to rusts and mildew in barley [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Background - Higher plants possess a large multigene family encoding secreted class III peroxidase (Prx) proteins. Peroxidases appear to be associated with plant disease resistance based on observations of induction during disease challenge and the ...

Acute and persistent Mycobacterium tuberculosis infections depend on the thiol peroxidase TpX. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
The macrophage is the natural niche of Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection. In order to combat oxidative and nitrosative stresses and persist in macrophages successfully, M. tuberculosis is endowed with a very efficient antioxidant complex.

Lignin-degrading peroxidases in white-rot fungus Trametes hirsuta 072. Absolute expression quantification of full multigene family. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2017
Ligninolytic heme peroxidases comprise an extensive family of enzymes, which production is characteristic for white-rot Basidiomycota. The majority of fungal heme peroxidases are encoded by multigene families that differentially express closely related ...

Mushroom Ligninolytic Enzymes―Features and Application of Potential Enzymes for Conversion of Lignin into Bio-Based Chemicals and Materials

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2021
Mushroom ligninolytic enzymes are attractive biocatalysts that can degrade lignin through oxido-reduction. Laccase, lignin peroxidase, manganese peroxidase, and versatile peroxidase are the main enzymes that depolymerize highly complex lignin structures ...

Characterization of a Dye-Decolorizing Peroxidase from Irpex lacteus Expressed in Escherichia coli: An Enzyme with Wide Substrate Specificity Able to Transform Lignosulfonates

open access: yesJournal of Fungi, 2021
A dye-decolorizing peroxidase (DyP) from Irpex lacteus was cloned and heterologously expressed as inclusion bodies in Escherichia coli. The protein was purified in one chromatographic step after its in vitro activation.

Directed evolution of a temperature-, peroxide- and alkaline pH-tolerant versatile peroxidase [PDF]

open access: yesBiochemical Journal, 2011
The VPs (versatile peroxidases) secreted by white-rot fungi are involved in the natural decay of lignin. In the present study, a fusion gene containing the VP from Pleurotus eryngii was subjected to six rounds of directed evolution, achieving a level of secretion in Saccharomyces cerevisiae (21 mg/l) as yet unseen for any ligninolytic peroxidase.
