Microchip vertical external cavity surface-emitting lasers
In this paper we have demonstrated monolithic "microchip" vertical external-cavity surface-emitting lasers (VECSEL), in which a cavity is formed between the VECSEL semiconductor back mirror and a dielectric mirror coating on the outer surface of the heat spreader, and where pump-induced thermal lensing may provide cavity stability. We have demonstrated

Cavity solitons in vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers [PDF]
We investigate a control of the motion of localized structures (LSs) of light by means of delay feedback in the transverse section of a broad area nonlinear optical system. The delayed feedback is found to induce a spontaneous motion of a solitary LS that is stationary and stable in the absence of feedback.

High-speed modulation, wavelength, and mode control in vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers
Paper 93810F, 10 S.We address demands and challenges for GaAs-based Vertical-Cavity Surface-Emitting Lasers (VCSEL) in data communication. High speed modulation (similar to 50Gb/s) at a high reliability can be realized with a proper VCSEL design ...

Wafer‐fused 1300 nm VCSELs with an active region based on superlattice
The 1300 nm range vertical‐cavity surface‐emitting lasers with the active region based on InGaAs/InGaAlAs superlattice are fabricated using molecular‐beam epitaxy and the double wafer‐fusion technique. Lasers with the buried tunnel junction diameter of 5

Theoretical investigation of the dynamical and static characteristics of vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers incorporating two-dimensional photonic crystals [PDF]
In this work we present a spatial and dynamical model of a semiconductor vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser (VCSEL) incorporating a spatial built-in optical waveguide created by the defect in a two-dimensional photonic crystal (PC). The PC is created

Multimode vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers under spin injection [PDF]
Recent research revealed that single-mode vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers under spin injection (spin-VCSELs) have the potential to revolutionize laser technology for short-haul optical communications. While previous studies have focused solely on
