Vertical Tracer Mixing in Hot Jupiter Atmospheres [PDF]

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2019
Abstract Aerosols appear to be ubiquitous in close-in gas giant atmospheres, and disequilibrium chemistry likely impacts the emergent spectra of these planets. Lofted aerosols and disequilibrium chemistry are caused by vigorous vertical transport in these heavily irradiated atmospheres.

Potential impacts of enhanced tropical cyclone activity on the El Niño–Southern Oscillation and East Asian monsoon in the mid-Piacenzian warm period

open access: yesAtmospheric and Oceanic Science Letters, 2019
Tropical cyclones (TCs) not only passively respond to climate change, but also play an important role in vertical mixing of the upper ocean and in driving oceanic heat transport.

The Mixed Layer Salinity Budget in the Northern South China Sea: A Modeling Study

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering, 2023
The seasonal variation in mixed layer salinity (MLS) plays a crucial role in global ocean circulation and hydrological cycle. The salinity budget of the mixed layer is important to understand the mechanism of the variation, but in the South China Sea ...

Degree of vertices and number of edges in a mixed graph

open access: yesAfrican Journal of Mathematics and Computer Science Research, 2023
In the study of a graph theory, degrees of vertices and number of edges are among the important theoretical terms that are helpful in showing discrete structures and their properties. This study attempts to present the relationship between number of edges and degrees of vertices in a mixed graph.

An experimental and CFD study of liquid jet injection into a partially baffled mixing vessel: a contribution to process safety by improving the quenching of runaway reactions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Thermal runaway remains a problem in the process industries with poor or inadequate mixing contributing significantly to these incidents. An efficient way to quench such an uncontrolled chemical reaction is via the injection of a liquid jet containing a ...

Functional comparison of EncB and EncC cargo proteins in iron storage within the Myxococcus xanthus encapsulin

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Encapsulins are protein nanocompartments that play an important role in iron storage. In the Myxococcus xanthus encapsulin system, two cargo proteins called EncB and EncC contribute to iron mineralization. Here, we show that EncB and EncC generate iron‐containing minerals with distinct chemical compositions, suggesting that the composition of stored ...

Assessment of the z∼ Time‐Filtered Arbitrary Lagrangian‐Eulerian Coordinate in a Global Eddy‐Permitting Ocean Model

open access: yesJournal of Advances in Modeling Earth Systems, 2022
A recognized deficiency of ocean models with a constant‐depth vertical coordinate is for truncation errors in the vertical advection scheme to result in spurious numerical mixing of tracers, which can be substantially stronger than that prescribed by the

The land-sea breeze influences the oceanography of the southern Benguela upwelling system at multiple time-scales

open access: yesFrontiers in Marine Science, 2023
The physical and biogeochemical functioning of eastern boundary upwelling systems is generally understood within the context of the upwelling - relaxation cycle, driven by sub-diurnal wind variability (i.e. with a time-scale of greater than a day). Here,

Stimulator of interferon genes agonist augmented antitumor immunity of osimertinib in Egfr‐mutated lung cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Combining osimertinib with the STING agonist ADU‐S100 activates innate and adaptive immunity to overcome the non‐inflamed microenvironment of Egfr‐mutant lung cancer. This combination increases NK and CD8+ T‐cell infiltration, associated with activation of the STING‐IRF3 pathway and local immunogenic cell death.

Observed features of the water masses in the Halmahera Sea in November 2016

open access: yesIlmu Kelautan, 2021
Halmahera Sea is one of the locations in the eastern route of Indonesian Throughflow (ITF), where high salinity water is mainly transported by the ITF.
