Iron‐Mediated Release of Aged Dissolved Organic Carbon From Waterlogged Peatland Under Warming

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study conducts a five‐year in situ warming experiment in high‐altitude peatlands to examine dissolved organic carbon (DOC) release. The study shows that warming promotes the release of plant‐derived modern DOC in drained peatlands, but amplifies aquatic export of century‐old DOC from waterlogged peatlands via Fe‐mediated DOC mobilization—a ...

Trial Production of Vertical Take-Off and Landing Aircraft Based on Tricopter

open access: yesJournal of Robotics and Mechatronics, 2016
[abstFig src='/00280003/06.jpg' width=""155"" text='Prototype of proposed aircraft' ] Trial production has begun on tricopter-based new-concept vertical take-off and landing aircraft (VTOL). The VTOL features three fixed-angle motors on a reversed-T shape body and a fixed wing with an elevon and a rudder.

A Worm‐Inspired Origami Robot with Multimodal Locomotion for Adaptive Mobility in Complex Pipeline Environments

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
An origami worm‐inspired robot achieves multimodal locomotion in confined pipelines through mechatronic integration that embeds actuation, control, and communication within each origami module. Large, reversible configuration and dimensional changes enable 25 gaits synthesized by a unified framework across peristaltic, inchworm, and wheel‐rolling modes

Experimental validation of the KC autotuner on a highly nonlinear vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) process

open access: yes, 2020
The paper focuses on a novel PID (proportional integral derivative) autotuner based on a single experi-mental sine test. The Kiss Circle (KC) autotuner design and validation are targeted on a vertical take-off and landing platform which exhibits a highly

A Versatile‐Designable Framework for Active and Programmable Shape‐Morphing Soft Matter Systems: From Inverse Design to Closed‐Loop Control

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A versatile framework integrates addressable electrothermal actuation and strain‐constraint mechanisms to construct programmable shape‐morphing soft matter systems. By combining an analytical inverse design strategy for high‐fidelity 3D surface reconstruction with deep learning‐based closed‐loop control, this approach enables zero‐energy shape locking,

Design, development, and flight testing of the vertical take-off and landing GNC testbed EAGLE

open access: yes, 2019
Precise landing on planets, moons, and other larger celestial bodies requires powered descent, hovering, and vertical landing. Similarly, recent and future concepts for re-usable launch vehicle (RLVs) also involve a vertical take-off and landing.

SiDT1 Defines Plant Architecture Reminiscent of Green Revolution in Foxtail Millet

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
SiDT1 encodes a GA3‐oxidase that creates a semi‐dwarf, lodging‐resistant architecture reminiscent of the rice Green Revolution. The resulting ideotype performs well under dense planting and provides a valuable genetic resource for high‐yield, mechanized foxtail millet production. ABSTRACT Foxtail millet (Setaria italica) is a drought‐tolerant C4 cereal

KINEMATIC AND KINETIC ANALYSIS OF COUNTER MOVEMENT JUMP VERSUS TWO DIFFERENT TYPES OF STANDING BACK SOMERSAULT

open access: yesScience of Gymnastics Journal, 2012
The aim of this study was to compare the take-off’s kinetic and kinematic variables between three types of jumps from a standing position: counter movement jump with arm swing (CMJa), standing back somersault with landings on the spot (BSls) and ...

Physics‐Guided Descriptors Enable Data‐Efficient Prediction of Battery Coulombic Efficiency

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This work integrates multiscale simulations with data‐driven approaches to predict Coulombic efficiency (CE). Multiscale simulations of battery systems are performed to extract Physics‐Guided descriptors and construct a dataset. Machine learning models trained on this dataset are then subjected to interpretable analysis to identify the most influential

Origami Metamaterials Based on Low‐Melting‐Point Alloy Phase Transition: Breaking the Trade‐Off Between Reusability and Energy Absorption Quality

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This work presents an origami metamaterial that integrates a low‐melting‐point alloy skeleton into an elastomeric shell. It dissipates energy through the metal's plastic deformation and recovers through the solid–liquid phase transition of the alloy together with the hyperelasticity of the shell.
