Meteorological tower wind shear characteristics, vertical wind speed profile, and surface roughness analysis near the coastline of Chennai [PDF]
Extrapolation of wind data is required to estimate wind speeds at high altitudes. Doing so requires an essential understanding of wind shear characteristics related to the location or region.

Sensitivity of the surface orographic gravity wave drag to vertical wind shear over Antarctica [PDF]
The effects of vertical wind shear on orographic gravity wave drag derived previously from inviscid linear theory are evaluated using reanalysis data. Emphasis is placed on the relative importance of uniform and directional shear (associated with first ...

Thermomechanical fatigue tests of laser beam powder bed fusion (PBF‐LB) Inconel 718 show that the additively manufactured material reaches almost the lifetimes of conventionally‐rolled material under no‐dwell conditions. Introducing dwell times at the maximum temperature markedly reduces the lifetimes due to pronounced grain boundary sliding associated

Vertical shears of horizontal winds in the lower thermosphere observed by ICON
AbstractVertical shears of horizontal winds play an important role in the dynamics of the upper atmosphere. Prior observations have indicated that these shears predominantly occur in the lower thermosphere. MIGHTI observations from the Ionospheric Connection Explorer indicate that strong wind shears are a common feature of the lower thermosphere ...

Effect of Laser Deoxidation on Adhesive‐Bonded Aluminum in an Oxygen‐Free Atmosphere
This study investigates laser ablation of aluminum under oxygen‐free conditions. The goal is to produce oxide‐free substrates that enable improved adhesive bonding with epoxy. Optimized laser parameters (90% overlap, 300 µJ) combined with oxide‐free substrates result in the highest tensile strength of the adhesive bond.

If the wind speed that passed through a wind turbine rotor disk area is constant, the hub height wind speed (HHWS) could be representative of the wind speed over the rotor disk area.

Circulation and Dissipation on Hot Jupiters
Many global circulation models predict supersonic zonal winds and large vertical shears in the atmospheres of short-period jovian exoplanets. Using linear analysis and nonlinear local simulations, we investigate hydrodynamic dissipation mechanisms to ...

Four‐point bending tests are conducted in an argon atmosphere on commercial MgO‐C brick grades with and without MgO‐C recyclate from room temperature up to 1300 °C. No detrimental effect of the MgO‐C recyclates on bending strength is found. Instead, a decisive influence of the total carbon content is observed, with lower total carbon contents ...

Increased Turbulence in the Eurasian Upper‐Level Jet Stream in Winter: Past and Future
Anthropogenic activities have been increasingly strengthening the meridional temperature gradient in the upper atmosphere, which has a profound impact on the wind shear and turbulence in mid‐latitudes.
