Reconstituting Synaptic Vesicle Fusion
Science Signaling, 2013A model of neurotransmitter release explains why two proteins not needed for membrane fusion in vitro are needed in vivo.

Stability and Fusion of Vesicles
1980Amphiphilic molecules, when put into water solutions, build up organized structures so as to shield their hydrophobic parts from the water molecules.

Penetration and fusion of phospholipid vesicles by lysozyme
Archives of Biochemistry and Biophysics, 1989The lysozyme-induced fusion of phosphatidylserine/phosphatidylethanolamine vesicles as studied at a wide range of pH is found to correlate well with the binding of this protein to the vesicles. An identical 6000 molecular weight segment of lysozyme at the N-terminal region is found to be protected from tryptic digestion when initially incubated with ...

Flow-Driven Rapid Vesicle Fusion via Vortex Trapping.
Langmuir, 2015Fusion between suspended lipid vesicles is difficult to achieve without membrane proteins or ions because the vesicles have extremely low equilibrium membrane tension and high poration energy.

Reactivity and fusion between cationic vesicles and fatty acid anionic vesicles
Journal of Colloid and Interface Science, 2010The fusion between synthetic vesicles is an interesting mechanism for the stepwise construction of vesicle compartments for origins of life models and synthetic biology. In this communication, we report an innovative study on the not well-known case of fusion between oppositely charged vesicles, in particular by using fatty acid vesicles and DDAB as ...

Vesicles and Vesicle Fusion: Coarse-Grained Simulations
2012Biological cells are highly dynamic, and continually move material around their own volume and between their interior and exterior. Much of this transport encapsulates the material inside phospholipid vesicles that shuttle to and from, fusing with, and budding from, other membranes.

Synaptic vesicle docking and fusion
Current Opinion in Neurobiology, 1999Neurotransmitter secretion shares many features with constitutive membrane trafficking. In both cases, vesicles are targeted to a specific acceptor membrane and fuse via a series of protein-protein interactions. Recent work has added to the list of protein complexes involved and is beginning to define the order in which they act.

Computer Simulation of Vesicle Fusion
Key Engineering Materials, 2011A dissipative particle dynamics simulation method is used to get insight into molecular-level details of vesicle fusion in this study. For simplicity, the simulation system contains water and amphiphiles. The fusion mechanism is investigated in detail. It is found that the whole fusion process is in well agreement with the “stalk-pore” hypothesis.

The Fusion Between Autophagic Vesicles and Lysosomes
2021The autophagosome delivers engulfed substrates to the lysosome for degradation via membrane fusion between the autophagosome and the lysosome. The process of membrane fusion is highly conserved in evolution. It is widely accepted that membrane fusion in general is driven by the zippering of the SNARE complex to form a four-helix bundle. Besides SNAREs,
