Direct detection and characterization of foot-and-mouth disease virus in East Africa using a field-ready real-time PCR platform [PDF]
Effective control and monitoring of foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) relies upon rapid and accurate disease confirmation. Currently, clinical samples are usually tested in reference laboratories using standardized assays recommended by The World Organisation

This study presents a rapid and sensitive virus detection method that employs imaging of virus‐specific DNA markers. Utilizing specially designed single‐stranded circular DNA probes, this method captures RNA fragments from RNase‐digested viral genomes during the reverse transcriptase‐based reaction, resulting in double‐stranded markers that are ...

Post-translational processing of the glycoproteins of lymphocytic choriomeningitis virus. [PDF]
Intracellular events in the synthesis, glycosylation, and transport of the lymphocytic choriomeningitis virus (LCMV) glycoproteins have been examined. We have shown by N-glycanase digestion that LCMV strain Arm-4 bears five oligosaccharides on GP-1 and ...

A Vesicular Stomatitis Virus‐Inspired DNA Nanocomplex for Ovarian Cancer Therapy
Gene therapy provides a novel method for cancer therapy. This study shows a DNA nanocomplex that is inspired from vesicular stomatitis virus (VSV) for ovarian cancer therapy. This DNA nanocomplex consists of a cationized monomethoxy poly (ethylene glycol)

Inactivation of Vesicular Stomatitis Virus by Disinfectants
Twenty-four chemical disinfectants considered to be viricidal were tested. Ten disinfectants were not viricidal for vesicular stomatitis virus within 10 min at 20 C when an LD 50 titer of 10 8.5 virus units per 0.1 ml were to be inactivated.

Infection of livestock by foot‐and‐mouth disease (FMD) virus (FMDV) has serious economic implications due to productivity losses and trade restrictions. In countries that are free from foot and mouth disease, the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH) provides two proof of freedom from disease status categories; namely, FMD‐free without using ...

Type I interferon signalling and interferon‐responsive microglia in health and disease
Recent insights reveal that type I interferon (IFN‐I) signalling plays critical roles in the nervous system beyond antiviral defence. Dysregulated IFN‐I activity is increasingly linked to neurological dysfunction and neurodegeneration, with microglia as central mediators. This review explores the broader impact of IFN‐I signalling on the nervous system

Rhabdovirus-based vaccine platforms against henipaviruses. [PDF]
UNLABELLED: The emerging zoonotic pathogens Hendra virus (HeV) and Nipah virus (NiV) are in the genus Henipavirus in the family Paramyxoviridae. HeV and NiV infections can be highly fatal to humans and livestock.
