A rapid method for the isolation of viable cardiac myocytes from adult rat

Experimental Cell Research, 1978
Abstract A technique is described for the isolation of viable heart muscle cells from adult rat by perfusion with a Ca 2+ -free modified Hanks buffer containing crude collagenase. A yield of about 45 × 10 6 myocytes/heart is usually obtained, which approximately corresponds to 50% of the total cell mass of the heart.

The enzymic isolation of adult rat hepatocytes in a functional and viable state

Analytical Biochemistry, 1976
Various methods for the preparation of rat hepatocyte suspensions have been compared with regard to cell yield and viability index. A modified method of collagenase/hyaluronidase digestion using a sequential removal and replacement of Ca 2+ and the omission of all perfusion steps has been evolved, thereby making the technique potentially viable for ...

A method for identifying viable and damaged neurons in adult mouse brain slices

Acta Histochemica, 2009
The cell survival assay is a commonly used technique for studying cellular mechanisms and degree of neuroprotection following cerebral ischemia. The in vitro preparations for studying ischemia are often hypoxic models induced by oxygen and glucose deprivation (OGD).

Is PACT a Viable Model for Older Adults with Severe Mental Illnesses?

Clinical Gerontologist, 2007
Abstract Adults aged 60 and older are the fastest growing segment of the American population. Only a fraction of older adults who acknowledge mental health problems receive specialty mental health services. This study examined service utilization, service costs and outcomes in a Program of Assertive Community Treatment (PACT) specifically designed to ...

Viable Fertile Mice Generated from Fully Pluripotent iPS Cells Derived from Adult Somatic Cells

Stem Cell Reviews and Reports, 2010
Previous studies demonstrated that induced pluripotent stem (iPS) cells could produce viable mice through tetraploid complementation, which was thought to be the most stringent test for pluripotency. However, these highly pluripotent iPS cells were previously reported to be generated from fibroblasts of embryonic origin. Achieving fully pluripotent iPS

Dementia Support Among Older Mexican Americans: Is Adult Day Care a Viable Alternative?

2021
Estimates of the prevalence of dementia among Latinos in the United States vary from 5% to over 12.9% depending upon the measurement of cognitive impairment employed, the age of the sample, and specific nation of origin (Gonzalez et al., 2019; Haan, Mungas, Gonzalez, Ortiz, & Jagust, 2003; Langa et al., 2017; Matthews et al., 2019; Mehta & Yeo, 2017 ...

Adult day case hallux valgus surgery—a safe and viable option

Ambulatory Surgery, 2003
Abstract The aim of this study was to assess the success of hallux valgus surgery in the day surgery setting. A patient satisfaction survey was undertaken in 65 patients who underwent surgery by one surgeon in the day surgery centre of William Harvey Hospital.

Oxygen saturation and perfusion index from pulse oximetry in adult volunteers with viable incisors

Acta Odontologica Scandinavica, 2016
Evaluation of pulp vitality is an important diagnostic procedure in dentistry. Conventional techniques for measurement of pulp vitality, including thermal stimulation, electrical stimulation, or direct dentin stimulation, are frequently associated with false positive or false negative results.

Adult Spinal Motoneurons Remain Viable Despite Prolonged Absence of Functional Synaptic Contact with Muscle

Experimental Neurology, 1993
Several rat medial gastrocnemius (MG) motor axons were allowed to regenerate into normally innervated muscle. Under these conditions, synapse formation is known to be prevented by the existence of the original innervation of the host muscle. A study was made of the ability of the implanted spinal motoneurons to acquire and retrogradely transport ...
