Shunted magnetostrictive devices in vibration control
Smart Materials and Structures, 2020Abstract Structural vibrations in rotating machinery may lead to imprecise motion control, excessive noise, or even structural damage. Magnetostrictive materials can dissipate unwanted vibrations via hysteresis, eddy currents, and joule heating while exhibiting an electrically-tunable elastic modulus.

Active Vibration Control and Isolation for Micromachined Devices
Journal of Mechanical Design, 2008Some harsh environments contain high frequency, high amplitude mechanical vibrations. Unfortunately some very useful components, such as micro-electro-mechanical systems (MEMS) gyroscopes, can be very sensitive to these high frequency mechanical vibrations.

Damping coefficient control device for vibration damper
The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1992A damping coefficient control device, for use in a vibration damper of the type which is disposed between a vibration source and a vibration receiving section to be isolated from the vibration of the vibration source and which has a plurality of small liquid chambers charged with an electrorheologic fluid and communicated through an orifice, includes ...

Electronically controllable vibration damping device
The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1992A vibration damping device includes first and second accelerometers which are used to determine the relative displacement between a body and a base between which the device is operatively connected. The output of one of the accelerometers is also monitored in a manner to determine the frequency of the vibration.

Vibration Control with Nonlinear Rotating Inertial Mass Device
IABSE Reports, 2015<p>The authors have been carrying out numerical studies on the effect of a passive nonlinear absorber containing a rotating inertial mass (N-RIM). In this paper, the performance of this proposed absorber system when used for the base isolation of a building against strong earthquakes is presented. The N-RIM system consists of a strongly nonlinear
