Use of the energy of parametric oscillations to improve drilling indices [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Purpose. Increase of the efficiency of using energy of parametric oscillations within the assembly of drilling string bottom by means of solving nonlinear-parametric equations of a “bit – drive motor – drilled-out rock” system to improve drilling indices.

Packaging of Macroscopic Material Payloads: Needs, Challenges, Concepts, and Future Directions

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This review introduces a unified framework that decomposes any macroscopic packaging system into the payload, packaging material, and packaging strategy and combines them into a conceptual packaging equation: packaging strategy = payload + packaging material.

Active control of vibrations using externally excited piezoceramic devices [PDF]

open access: yesThe Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1987
The design and function of piezoceramic devices containing either one (unimorph) or two (bimorph) piezoceramic disks are described. The function of these devices is to null the transmitted displacement field or both the transmitted and reflected displacement fields when a displacement or pressure field is impressed on one side of the device.

Influence of an Argon/Silane Atmosphere on the Temperature of a Thermal Plasma

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The influence of a silane‐doped argon atmosphere on the chemical composition and temperature of a thermal nontransferring argon plasma is investigated using optical emission spectroscopy. As a result of the high amount of free electrons resulting from the stepwise ionization and dissociation of the silane molecule, even a silane addition of 0.01 vol ...

Vibration suppression device that has variable moment of inertia using magneto-rheological fluid (Seismic test during switching series inertia mass by reinforcement learning)

open access: yesNihon Kikai Gakkai ronbunshu, 2022
In previous paper the authors successfully developed a vibration suppression device (VSD) that has variable moment of inertia using Magneto-Rheological (MR) fluid. The MR fluid is filled into a flywheel.

Dynamics of piezoceramics-based mass and force actuators for rotating machines [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
In the past decade, it has become more and more common to install active vibration control devices on rotating systems like grinding machines, tooling centers, industrial fans and drive shafts.

Vibration isolation with smart fluid dampers: a benchmarking study [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
The non-linear behaviour of electrorheological (ER) and magnetorheological (MR) dampers makes it difficult to design effective control strategies, and as a consequence a wide range of control systems have been proposed in the literature.

Application of Raman and Photoluminescence Spectroscopy to MgO‐C Refractories

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Visible to near infrared luminescence of MgO is studied on MgO‐C bricks and nominally pure MgO powder, with focus on two similar sharp high‐intensity signals, at 699 and 871 nm, each surrounded by symmetrical sidebands. The nature of these sidebands is investigated by temperature‐dependent spectroscopic measurements, confirming phonon involvement by ...

Electromagnetic damper using brushless direct drive DC motor

open access: yesMechanical Engineering Journal, 2018
To fabricate a semiactive type of damper that is comparatively compact and has low mechanical loss, the author developed an electromagnetic damper using a brushless direct drive DC motor. The damper comprises a ball screw mechanism and a brushless direct

Tailored Hierarchical Porous Copper Architectures via Three Dimensional Printing and Pressure‐less Sintering for Next‐Generation Lithium‐Metal Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A hierarchical porous copper current collector is fabricated via three‐dimensional printing combined with pressureless sintering to stabilize lithium metal anodes. The interconnected architecture lowers local current density, guides uniform Li deposition within pores, and suppresses dendrite growth.
