Affordance of vibrational excitation for music composition and performance [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Mechanical vibrations have typically been used in the performance domain within feedback systems to inform musicians of system states or as communication channels between performers.

Modulating Two‐Photon Absorption in a Pyrene‐Based MOF Series: An In‐Depth Investigation of Structure–Property Relationships

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates H4TBAPy‐based metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) ‐ NU‐1000, NU‐901, SrTBAPy, and BaTBAPy ‐ for multiphoton absorption (MPA) performance. It observes topology‐dependent variations in the 2PA cross‐section, with BaTBAPy exhibiting the highest activity.

Optimal Design Criteria for Isolation Devices in Vibration Control [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
In the present study a multi-objective optimization design criterion for linear viscous elastic vibration control devices has been proposed. More in detail, the problem of an isolator device for the vibration control of a single rigid mass have been analysed.

Analysis of the energy harvesting performance of a piezoelectric bender outside its resonance [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
When the frequency of the source of vibration of a piezolectric generator is significantly different from its eigenfrequency, the dielectric power losses become prominent and decrease the amount of power which is practically harvested.

Near‐Infrared Emitting Lanthanide Catecholate Giant Single Crystals – Morphology Control and Photon Down‐Conversion

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Controlled syntheses of lanthanide coordination polymers based on the dihydroxybenzoquinone (DHBQ) organic linker afforded large single crystals of Ln‐DHBQ CPs (Ln = Yb, Nd). A novel structural variant of Yb‐DHBQ is identified by means of single crystal diffraction analysis.

A Vibration-Isolating Blast Technique with Shock-Reflection Device for Dam Foundation Excavation in Complicated Geological Conditions

open access: yesShock and Vibration, 2018
Under complicated geological conditions, the vibration in the dam foundation caused by blasting can lead to further deterioration of the foundation rock mass and adversely affect the safety of foundation.

A shape memory alloy adaptive tuned vibration absorber: design and implementation

open access: yes, 2005
In this paper a tuned vibration absorber (TVA) is realized using shape memory alloy (SMA) elements. The elastic modulus of SMA changes with temperature and this effect is exploited to develop a continuously tunable device.A TVA with beam elements is ...

Parylene-HT-based electret rotor generator [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
A new micro power generator with parylene HT electret rotor is made. This generator uses parylene HT as a new electret material with a much superior charge density compared to teflon and CYTOP.

Fast‐Responding O2 Gas Sensor Based on Luminescent Europium Metal‐Organic Frameworks (MOF‐76)

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Luminescent MOF‐76 materials based on Eu(III) and mixed Eu(III)/Y(III) show rapid and reversible changes in emission intensity in response to O2 with very short response times. The effect is based on triplet quenching of the linker ligands that act as photosensitizers. Average emission lifetimes of a few milliseconds turn out to be mostly unaffected by
