Coordinated Architectural and Chemical Reinforcement in the Crushing Mandible of a Soldier Termite

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The crushing mandible of a soldier termite withstands substantial biting loads despite lacking mineral. Its cuticle is partitioned: convex teeth pair hardness and zinc enrichment with aligned chitin fibers for contact durability, while stiffer concave regions between teeth carry bending loads.

Stability diagnosis of rotor-oil film bearing system by utilizing magnetic bearing

open access: yesNihon Kikai Gakkai ronbunshu, 2016
Oil film bearings are applied for large rotational machineries owing to their large load capacity and damping effect. However, a swirling flow of the lubricant induces self-excitation at high rotational speed.

Output Control of Three-Axis PMSG Wind Turbine Considering Torsional Vibration Using H Infinity Control

open access: yesEnergies, 2020
Due to changes in wind, the torque obtained from the wind turbine always fluctuates. Here, the wind turbine and the rotor of the generator are connected by a shaft that is one elastic body, and each rotating body has different inertia.

Hierarchical Collagen Nanofiber Gels Recapitulate a Physiologically Relevant Tumor Stromal Microenvironment

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
The collagen nanofiber (CNF) gel supports cancer cell culture, exhibiting cell morphology and cancer‐related protein expression similar to Matrigel. It offers a higher collagen concentration than commercial gels. Additionally, the CNF gel allows replication of the high elasticity of in vivo cancer tissue by controlling collagen fiber sizes, ranging ...

Modeling of partially regular microreliefs formed on the end faces of rotation bodies by a vibration method [PDF]

open access: yesUkrainian journal of mechanical engineering and materials science, 2020
The scheme of formation of a set of variants of grooves of partially regular microreliefs formed on the end faces of rotation bodies by a vibration method has been developed, and the conditions of their existence have been determined. Using a block approach, mathematical models of partially regular microreliefs have been constructed, which described a ...

Rapid Fabrication of Self‐Propelled and Steerable Magnetic Microcatheters for Precision Medicine

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A rapid Joule heating fabrication method for the production of self‐propelling, adaptive microcatheters, with tunable stiffness and integrated microfluidic channels is presented. Demonstrated through three microrobotic designs, including a steerable guiding catheter, an untethered wave‐crawling TubeBot, and a distal‐end propelled microcatheter, it was ...
