From matrix formalisms for VCD and ROA inspired by the polar tensor infrared intensity theory, and by the polar tensor and the Mayants-Averbukh Raman intensity theories, it is found that the APT approach of Freedman and Nafie can be extended by appropriate transformations of the occurring origin dependent atomic axial tensors (AATs).

This chapter describes the potential and limitations of attenuated total reflection infrared (ATR-IR) spectroscopy, modulation excitation spectroscopy (MES), and vibrational circular dichroism (VCD) for the investigation of bio-interfaces. The three techniques are completely independent of each other although ATR-IR and MES can be combined.

The FT-IR absorption and FT-IR VCD spectra in the region 1600−800 cm−1 are reported for 2-vinyl-exo-borneol and compared to those of camphor. Optimized geometries, harmonic force fields, and absorption spectra were calculated by ab initio means at the 6−31G*(03) level of RHF/SCF for both molecules.
