Fatal bacteremia due to immotile Vibrio cholerae serogroup O21 in Vientiane, Laos – a case report [PDF]

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical Microbiology and Antimicrobials, 2008
Background Human infections with non-O1, non-O139 V. cholerae have been described from Laos. Elsewhere, non cholera-toxin producing, non-O1, non-O139 V.

Retrospective Analysis of Serotype Switching of Vibrio cholerae O1 in a Cholera Endemic Region Shows It Is a Non-random Process [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS Neglected Tropical Diseases, 2016
Genomic data generated from clinical Vibrio cholerae O1 isolates collected over a five year period in an area of Kolkata, India with seasonal cholera outbreaks allowed a detailed genetic analysis of serotype switching that occurred from Ogawa to Inaba ...

Genomic Analysis of Immune Response against Vibrio Cholerae Hemolysin in Caenorhabditis elegans [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Vibrio cholerae cytolysin (VCC) is among the accessory V. cholerae virulence factors that may contribute to disease pathogenesis in humans. VCC, encoded by hlyA gene, belongs to the most common class of bacterial toxins, known as poreforming toxins (PFTs)

Emergence and genomic insights of non-pandemic O1 Vibrio cholerae in Zhejiang, China

open access: yesMicrobiology Spectrum, 2023
Vibrio cholerae O1 has caused cholera pandemics. Non-pandemic V. cholerae O1 strains, which are genetically distinctive from the pandemic clones, have been isolated from both human infections and the environment.

Diagnostic techniques for rapid detection of Vibrio cholerae O1/O139.

open access: yesVaccine, 2020
Cholera caused by the toxigenic Vibrio cholerae is still a major public health problem in many countries. This disease is mainly due to poor sanitation, hygiene and consumption of unsafe water.

Vibrio cholerae O1 transmission in Bangladesh: insights from a nationally representative serosurvey

open access: yesThe Lancet Microbe, 2020
Summary Background Pandemic Vibrio cholerae from cholera-endemic countries around the Bay of Bengal regularly seed epidemics globally. Without reducing cholera in these countries, including Bangladesh, global cholera control might never be achieved ...

New Vibrio cholerae O1 Biotype ElTor bacteriophages [PDF]

open access: yesVirology Journal, 2005
AbstractWe report the presence of three new O1 ElTor vibriophages named AS1, AS2 and AS3, isolated from the sewage and pond waters of the outskirts of Kolkata. A few phages, named AS4, with hexagonal heads and abnormally long tails with typical curly projections were also found in the water samples.

Spectrum of ctxB genotypes, antibiogram profiles and virulence genes of Vibrio cholerae serogroups isolated from environmental water sources from Odisha, India

open access: yesBMC Microbiology, 2023
Background The present study reports on the comprehensive analysis of Vibrio cholerae O1 and non-O1/non-O139 serogroups isolated from environmental water sources during cholera outbreaks, epidemics and surveillance studies between years 2007 to 2019 from

Whole-Genome Analysis of Clinical Vibrio cholerae O1 in Kolkata, India, and Dhaka, Bangladesh, Reveals Two Lineages of Circulating Strains, Indicating Variation in Genomic Attributes

open access: yesmBio, 2020
Cholera continues to be a global concern, as large epidemics have occurred recently in Haiti, Yemen, and countries of sub-Saharan Africa. A single lineage of Vibrio cholerae O1 has been considered to be introduced into these regions from South Asia and ...
