Immunogenicity of Vibrio cholerae O1 Fimbriae in Animal and Human Cholera [PDF]

open access: yesMicrobiology and Immunology, 1993
AbstractParenteral immunization with either formalin‐fixed whole cells of the fimbriate Bgd17 strain or purified fimbriae protected against Vibrio cholerae O1 infection in rabbits, independent of biotype and serotype. Parenteral immunization of adult rabbits with purified fimbriae prior to V.

Septicemia caused by Vibrio cholerae O1 biotype El Tor, in São Paulo, Brazil

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Infectious Diseases
We reported a case of septicemia by Vibrio cholerae O1, in São Paulo, Brazil. A 70-year-old male patient, living in an urban area, entered the emergency service having sepsis, dying 12 hours later. Blood culture was positive for Vibrio cholerae O1.

Monoclonal antibodies to Vibrio cholerae O1 serotype inaba [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Microbiology, 1988
Eighteen monoclonal antibodies were generated from mice immunized with Vibrio cholerae O1 serotype Inaba. Reactivities of these antibodies were investigated by slide agglutination, microdilution agglutination, and passive hemagglutination tests. Although all antibodies reacted to the Inaba-type cells, reactivity to Ogawa cells showed some variation ...

THE STUDY OF DIAGNOSTIC POTENTIAL OF MONOCLONAL ANTIBODIES SPECIFIC TO THE MEMBRANE PROTEIN OF CHOLERA AGENT IN ENZYME-LINKED IMMUNOASSAY

open access: yesПроблемы особо опасных инфекций, 2017
Objective of the study was to develop peroxidase conjugate on the base of monoclonal antibodies (MCA) H2F6 and to study the possibility of its application for the detection of tcp+ Vibrio cholerae O1/O139 strains using direct ELISA methods.Materials and ...

CTX Prophages in Vibrio cholerae O1 Strains

open access: yesJournal of Microbiology and Biotechnology, 2014
The classical biotype strains of the Vibrio cholerae O1 serogroup harbor the biotype-specific cholera-toxin encoding phage (CTX) CTX(cla), and the El Tor biotype strains contain CTX-1. Although the classical biotype strains have become extinct, a remnant of classical CTX phage is transferred to the El Tor biotype strains.

Genome Sequence of Non-O1 Vibrio cholerae PS15 [PDF]

open access: yesGenome Announcements, 2013
ABSTRACT The draft genome sequence of a non-O1 Vibrio cholerae strain, PS15, organized into 3,512 open reading frames within a 3.9-Mb genome, was determined. The PS15 genome sequence will allow for the study of the evolution of virulence and environmental adaptation in V. cholerae .

Risk factors for cholera mortality: A scoping review

open access: yesTropical Medicine &International Health, Volume 30, Issue 5, Page 332-350, May 2025.
Abstract Objectives Cholera is an easily treatable disease, but many people are still unnecessarily dying from it. To improve current case management practices and prevent mortality requires a comprehensive understanding of who is at higher risk of dying.

Haemolysin produced by Vibrio cholerae non-O1 is not enterotoxic [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Medical Microbiology, 1996
Of 28 isolates of Vibrio cholerae non-O1 (10 from diarrhoeal patients and 18 from environmental sources) examined for haemolytic activity and its correlation, if any, with enterotoxic activity, 24 showed haemolysis. The four non-haemolytic isolates showed haemolysis after consecutive passages through rabbit ileal loops (RILs).

New qnr Gene Cassettes Associated with Superintegron Repeats in Vibrio cholerae O1

open access: yesEmerging Infectious Diseases, 2008
A novel qnr determinant emerged in ciprofloxacin-resistant Vibrio cholerae O1 from the Amazon region of Brazil. This qnrVC1 was in a typical class 1 integron. Its attC showed 89% identity with V. parahaemolyticus superintegron repeats. Analysis showed V.
