Experimental evaluation of a vibro-impact model for two adjacent shear-building structures
The vibro-impact phenomenon is found in many engineering applications, from impact of floating ice with ships to rubbing between the stator structure and rotor blades in turbomachinery, and in most cases it is important to know the implication of this ...

Multistability and Self‐Similarity in the Parameter‐space of a Vibro‐impact System [PDF]
The dynamics of a dissipative vibro‐impact system called impact‐pair is investigated. This system is similar to Fermi‐Ulam accelerator model and consists of an oscillating one‐dimensional box containing a point mass moving freely between successive inelastic collisions with the rigid walls of the box.

Nonlinear Dynamics of Vibro-Impacting Indenter
We investigated a vibro-impacting indenter interacting with strata in the form of metal or rock samples experimentally and via mathematical modelling. An experimental programme was undertaken on the custom-designed rig at the Centre for Applied Dynamics ...

Sensing and Quantifying a New Mechanism for Vehicle Brake Creep Groan
This paper investigates the creep groan of a vehicle’s brake experimentally, analytically, and numerically. Experimentally, the effects of acceleration on caliper and strut, noise, brake pressure, and tension are measured.

External Periodic Force Control of a Single-Degree-of-Freedom Vibroimpact System
A single-degree-of-freedom mechanical model of vibro-impact system is established. Bifurcation and chaos in the system are revealed with the time history diagram, phase trajectory map, and Poincaré map.

Penalty regularisation of a dissipative vibro-impacting system
Summary: The so-called penalty method in FE-calculation regularises the strong contact conditions by introducing contact stiffnesses and damping in order to reduce the mathematical effort. The problem, however, lies in an appropriate choice of the values of parameters for these artificially introduced springs and dampers.

Effect of Method Type on the Response of Continuum Vibro-Impact
The force integration method (FIM) and the methods based on the mode transfer principle are the frequently used choices for solving the vibro-impact problem of continuum.

Semi-analytical Approach for Analyzing Vibro-Impact Systems [PDF]
A semi-analytical approach, combining the features of analytical and numerical computations, is proposed. Separating the linear and nonlinear parts of equations of motion, the harmonic balance method and computer algebra have been synthesized for obtaining analytical solutions of the nonlinear part, whereas the linear part was solved by the numerical ...
