カルシウムテトラエチル亜鉛CaZn(C2H5)4が,スチレン,メタクリル酸メチルおよびアクリロニトリルなどのビニル化合物に対して有効な重合触媒となることがわかった。カルシウムテトラエチル亜鉛は,Gilmanの方法によって,ジェチル亜鉛とカルシウム金属とから合成した。酢酸ビニル,塩化ビニル,アクリル酸メチルなどはこの触媒では重合しなかった。酸素,キノン類などはこの重合を抑制した。メタクリル酸メチルとスチレンとの共重合では,典型的な「陰イオン的」単量体反応性比が見出された。動力学的研究の結果,見かけの活性化エネルギーの値はかなり小であり,また1分子停止機構が妥当と考えられる。これらの事実の重合反応が陰イオン機構によっていることを支持する。この触媒によって得られたポリスチレンについて,赤外吸収スペクトル ...
