A hot X-ray filament associated with A3017 galaxy cluster [PDF]
Recent simulations and observations have shown large scale filaments in the cosmic web connecting nodes, with accreting materials (baryonic and dark matter) flowing through them.

Procalcitonin in patients with influenza A (H1N1) infection and acute respiratory failure [PDF]
Objective: To verify serum procalcitonin levels of patients with acute respiratory failure secondary to influenza A (H1N1) upon their admission to the Intensive Care Unit and to compare these results to values found in patients with sepsis and trauma ...

ABSTRACT Although most malignant germ cell tumors (GCTs) are highly curable with cisplatin‐based therapy, options for patients with multiply relapsed/refractory disease remain limited. For this population, we report the first pediatric use of gemcitabine, docetaxel, melphalan, and carboplatin (GemDMC) as part of sequential cycles of high‐dose ...

Epigenetic control of Epstein–Barr virus transcription – relevance to viral life cycle? [PDF]
DNA methylation normally leads to silencing of gene expression but Epstein–Barr virus (EBV) provides an exception to the epigenetic paradigm. DNA methylation is absolutely required for the expression of many viral genes.

ABSTRACT Introduction Adult‐onset Still's disease (AOSD) complicated by macrophage activation syndrome (MAS) carries substantial mortality. The role of therapeutic plasma exchange (TPE) remains uncertain. Methods We retrospectively analyzed patients with AOSD‐MAS treated with TPE at a single‐center.

Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.

Trends in detectable viral load by calendar year in the Australian HIV observational database [PDF]
Background Recent papers have suggested that expanded combination antiretroviral treatment (cART) through lower viral load may be a strategy to reduce HIV transmission at a population level.
