Viral Encephalitis: A Hard Nut to Crack

open access: yesAnnals of the National Academy of Medical Sciences (India), 2019
Viral encephalitis is inflammation of brain that manifests as neurological complication of viral infections. There are quite a good number of viruses, for example, human herpes virus, Japanese encephalitis, and enteroviruses that can result in such a ...

Silver Nanoparticle‐Mediated Antiviral Efficacy against Enveloped Viruses: A Comprehensive Review

open access: yesGlobal Challenges, EarlyView.
Silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) exhibit broad‐spectrum antiviral activity by targeting key viral structures and processes. They disrupt viral envelopes, compromising integrity, and bind to nucleocapsids, impairing viral replication. AgNPs also inhibit glycoprotein interactions, preventing viral attachment and entry into host cells.

Transcranial Doppler Sonography in Acute Viral Encephalitis with Special Reference to Dengue Encephalitis

open access: yesJournal of Applied Sciences and Clinical Practice
Introduction: Acute viral encephalitis syndrome including dengue encephalitis (DE) is an important tropical illness with a guarded prognosis. The cerebral blood flow may be affected in acute viral encephalitis. Transcranial Doppler (TCD) sonography can

The Antiviral Activity of Polyphenols

open access: yesMolecular Nutrition &Food Research, EarlyView.
Polyphenols demonstrate remarkable antiviral properties by effectively disrupting multiple biochemical processes essential for viral replication. ABSTRACT Polyphenols are secondary metabolites produced by a large variety of plants. These compounds that comprise the class of phenolic acids, stilbenes, lignans, coumarins, flavonoids, and tannins have a ...

Pterostilbene Exhibits Broad‐Spectrum Antiviral Activity by Targeting the Enterovirus Capsid, Inactivating Viral Particles, Blocking Viral Binding, and Protecting Mice From Lethal EV‐A71 Challenge

open access: yesPhytotherapy Research, EarlyView.
Pterostilbene (Pte) binds to the VP1 hydrophobic pocket of enteroviruses, stabilizing the viral capsid and preventing uncoating and RNA release. In vitro, Pte inactivates virions and impairs viral attachment, entry, and replication. In vivo, oral administration of Pte in hSCARB2‐transgenic mice reduces clinical symptoms and improves survival ...
