LUNAR is a liver‐specific long noncoding RNA (lncRNA) that is highly expressed in normal liver but becomes epigenetically silenced in hepatocellular carcinoma through promoter hypermethylation. Loss of LUNAR is associated with NOTCH activation, epithelial–mesenchymal transition, and metastasis, whereas restoring LUNAR restrains metastatic progression ...

Large-scale analysis of antigenic diversity of T-cell epitopes in dengue virus
Background Antigenic diversity in dengue virus strains has been studied, but large-scale and detailed systematic analyses have not been reported. In this study, we report a bioinformatics method for analyzing viral antigenic diversity in the context of T-

This study identifies somatostatin receptor 4 (Sstr4) as a critical tumor suppressor against skin and head/neck cancers (HNSCC, cSCC, and BCC). The loss of Sstr4 removes a check on cell growth, causing hyperactivation of the MAPK‐ERK signaling pathway (↑).

ViralQuest : A user-friendly interactive pipeline for viral-sequences analysis and curation
ABSTRACT Background High-throughput sequencing (HTS) has become an essential, unbiased tool in virology for identifying known and novel viruses. However, analyzing the large and complex datasets generated by HTS presents significant bioinformatics challenges. The process of accurately identifying and

The white spot syndrome virus DNA genome sequence [PDF]
White spot syndrome virus (WSSV) is at present a major scourge to worldwide shrimp cultivation. We have determined the entire sequence of the double-stranded, circular DNA genome of WSSV, which contains 292,967 nucleotides encompassing 184 major open ...

In head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) p53 and p63 exert opposite roles on the transcription regulation of the lncRNA NEAT1. Under basal conditions, p53 levels are low and p63 represses NEAT1 expression. Upon genotoxic stress, p53 is rapidly induced, displacing p63 from the NEAT1 promoter leading to NEAT1 transcriptional activation and ...

We established the avian chorioallantoic membrane (CAM) assay as a scalable in vivo model for studying circulating tumor cells (CTCs). Human gastrointestinal tumors spontaneously released genetically validated CTCs that were detected across multiple platforms, demonstrating that the CAM model provides an accessible tool for investigating early cancer ...

Analysis of heterogeneous viral populations by direct DNA sequencing.
The ability of direct PCR sequencing to detect and quantify sequence polymorphisms was investigated using samples containing mixed populations of HIV-1. A part of the genome encoding the polymorphic variable region 3 of the envelope was directly sequenced to yield a consensus sequence of the virus population.

Nearly all members of the Carmovirus genus contain a structurally conserved 3' proximal hairpin (H5) with a large internal symmetrical loop (LSL). H5 has been identified as a repressor of minus-strand synthesis in a satellite RNA (satC), which shares partial sequence similarity with its helper virus Turnip crinkle virus (TCV).
