Mitochondrial Calcium Uniporter Drives Chemoresistance in Pancreatic Cancer via Glutathione‐Mediated Stemness Maintenance

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
PDAC has a poor prognosis due to chemoresistance. We revealed that MCU upregulation is associated with chemoresistance and stemness in PDAC. MCU‐mediated Ca2+ influx induced ER stress, activating the PERK‐ATF4/NRF2 axis to enhance PSAT1/SLC711 expression and glutathione synthesis, reducing ROS and maintaining stemness.

Targeted Inhibition of CD74+ Macrophages by Luteolin via CEBPB/P65 Signaling Ameliorates Osteoarthritis Progression

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study identifies CD74⁺ macrophages as key drivers of synovial inflammation in osteoarthritis (OA). The flavonoid luteolin is predicted to inhibit this pathway by blocking Nuclear Factor Kappa‐light‐chain‐enhancer of Activated B cells (NF‐κB) signaling. To enhance delivery, a targeted nanoplatform (MDSPL) is developed.

Online options for future conferences will have an important positive impact for Early Career Researchers in pediatric pain

open access: yesPaediatric & Neonatal Pain, 2021
The extent to which the COVID‐19 pandemic will have a negative impact on Early Career Researchers (ECRs) within the field of pediatric pain and in general is still unclear, but it is likely to be far reaching and may disproportionality affect women. Yet,

Balanced Expression of the Diiron Oxygenase BioE Is Essential for Biotin Homeostasis in Elizabethkingia meningoseptica

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
BioE is a new diiron oxygenase that catalyzes the conversion of long‐chain acyl groups into pimeloyl thioester, initiating biotin synthesis. The overexpression of EmBioE disrupts lipid metabolic homeostasis, requiring repressor BioL to maintain a balance between long‐chain fatty acids and biotin synthesis.

ALDOA‐Mediated Metabolic Reprogramming is a Targetable Vulnerability for Ferroptosis Sensitization in Cancer

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ALDOA‐depletion‐mediated glycolytic reprogramming promotes autophagy‐mediated degradation of MBOAT2, increasing the ratio of phospholipids containing pro‐ferroptotic polyunsaturated fatty acids over anti‐ferroptotic monounsaturated fatty acids, and thus sensitizing cancer cells to ferroptosis.

Shifting away from the business-as-usual approach to research conferences

open access: yesBiology Open, 2020
To combat the climate crisis, we need rapid, unprecedented social change. Scientists can play a lead role by signaling to society that we recognize the critical importance of redesigning our business-as-usual approach to research conferences. Traditional
